Storing colonizing jars
    #26496205 - 02/20/20 10:30 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hey guys so there's some brf jars with a metal lid that has 4 holes on the edges of the lid.  After innoculating them, a layer of aluminum foil was put back on to cover the holes.  Does the foil need to come off while colonizing?  And also is leaving them under a blanket/big jacket in the tub of a bathroom ok?  A blanket sounded good since they need to be in dark and warm conditions?  Is anything wrong with this setup?

You shouldn't put the foil back on.
The foil is only to protect the substrate from the steam to get in and ruin the moisture content in the jars.

Take off the foil so you can get proper GE.
Also. They do not need to be in the dark. That's old info.
Best of luck

no foil no need to be dark just put the tote out of your way to get 12ish hours of ambient lighting daily and don't pick your cakes up everyday to check on them.
And the foil is not so steam can not get in its so it doesn't get rained on during the cooling process

Alright. At least I was half correct about it to protect the moisture content. Thanks for correcting me Cronr.
