Hello Everyone,
I'm San, wrong side of 50, first time poster, new to the forum, new to shrooms, new to shroom cultivation, ready for a steep learning curve.
I've grown a bit of weed in my time, used to moderate on the old HC forums back in the noughties before it was sold/closed down, so I like the crusty old forums format, non of that social media rubbish for me if there's any blast from the past old stoners remember HempCultivation/GardensCure big hello and how the devil are you!
I come to shrooms from a thearaputic angle, after caring for my Dad with MND for a few years, the whole experiance & his passing had me slowly sliding into depression, then a whole bunch of life stress hit me upside the head at the same time, put me into a panic attack about 4 months back and the adrenaline is still up there, the head Dr's would call it CPTSD.
During the insomnic hours I did a bunch of research trying to find out WTF was wrong with me/how to get better, which led me to the depression/PTSD trails various learned establishments did with Psilocybin, so I got James Fadimans book 'The Psychedelic Explorers Guide' also read Tim Leary's 'The Psychedelic Experience A Manual Based On The Tibetan Book Of TheDead' facinating stuff, something to numb the ego and let me get in touch with my subconcious sounds just the ticket!
So, tried to get on one of the only Psilocybin trials running in the UK which is for treatment resistant depression, dint fit the criteria since they insisted I had tried and failed with at least two flavours of BigPharma's poison pills, one flavour was enough for me thanks (sertraline) screwed my guts up bigtime and did zero to help! Seems the NHS is next to useless for depression/PTSD unless you're about to top yourself, I'm not that far gone so it's looks like it's up to me
Next I ordered myself a grow kit (cylocybe.com) and started reading, by the time I felt comfortable enough with the process to actually inoculate the mycobox (17 days) I noticed it was already contaminated with green shite...
...too late, although I emailed the supplier I'm not hopeful of a replacement since they cover themselves with a 10 day limit, and rather than throw good money after bad I figured I'd better join up here and find out how to salvage the spores!
on the shopping list for tomorrow: canning jars pressure cooker (found a cheapy on marketplace) popcorn kernals, coffee & if I can't find gypsum, brown rice instead Micropore tape
So if you managed to read this far, well done, have a biscuit
How long do spores last in a syringe?
See yall on the boards!

Hey there Sandala
Best of luck on your cultivating endeavor. Cultivating my own also brought me here many years ago. I wish you the best of luck and many mushrooms. Read tons, involve yourself in the cultivation forum here and use the search bar liberally. If I could do it (grow my own) anybody can.
Anyway welcome.
Oh and I don't have a definitive lifespan for spore syringes but I think if you keep them stored well in a cool, dark spot, I don't see why they wouldn't last a very long time.

Thanks for the welcome Niffla!
Managed to get myself a Pressure cooker, and a bunch of jam jars, jars are a bit smaller than ideal (like 1/2 size regular jam jars) but I have a lot of them.

Can't find gypsum off the shelf anywhere (can get from ebay for later shinanigans tho) so current research level points me at BRF/verm for the first run, will also try some with brown rice to experiment a bit, this should give me some time to decide on a substrate for a larger tote flowering chamber.
We have a basic plan Onwards and upwards!

Welcome to Shroomery Sandala!
If it’s not to late to return those I highly recommend you get half pint wide mouth jars for brf cakes. Those tiny ones will work, but the half pints is where it’s at. Good luck on brf, that’s where I started.

Hey Thanks MadHatter,
Yeah, was just reading all the EasyAF guides where Bod is using quart jars, then put 6 quarts into a tote with coir, then realised I'd need 50 jars full to do a tote grow, don't know what I was thinking
We had those little jars in already so no big loss, mite come in handy further down the line for agar shinanigans
Plan C is now to use 6 x 1 ltr screwtop kilner jars with Oats or whatever whole grain I can find in the equestrian foodstuff place, then go coir into an EasyAF tote type affair, the plan is coming together

You can always go the shoebox route too and you wouldn’t have all your jars in one basket. Check out Mushboys Making Shoeboxes Tek when you have time. I ran a few tubs, but prefer shoeboxes because they are simple and don’t take up much space.
I’m sure you’ll figure something out. Just make sure to search around and research a lot so you can get it right the first time. Also you may want to start a thread in mush cult or there’s threads for questions.

Cheers for that matey, shoebox seems a good way of splitting me eggs into multiple baskets, could even do both varieties I've got to play with too!
I've got a couple of big totes, was going to use one for a SAB and one for flowering but if I can find a few smaller boxes to go inside it could be the way to go
There's so much on the forum it's hard to contemplate it all, only meant to check out a few threads to get the grain tek down but I've lost a whole friggin day, browsing went fractal
When I've gathered all my supplies I'll do a thread laying out my plans to check it/get some expert input before I go ahead
