Bruising on BRF cakes is not fine, it means they're drying out too fast and surface conditions are suffering. Nonetheless it's an all too familiar look with BRF cakes inside the SGFC setup. Click on the 'Humidity Chamber' link when you finally get tired of drying blue cakes that underperform. SGFC isn't the most optimal fruiting setup for tiny substrates holding very little water. But like I said there are optional fruiting setups much better suited for cakes

To me it looks like a drying BRF cake inside a SGFC, the most typical look of cakes that are evaporating way too fast due to FAE overkill and over misting as equally detrimental compensation. The key is constant evaporation, not too slow and not too fast. Something not easily achieved in half-open air grows with mini substrates

i have a hygrometer and it has never gone below 80. im pretty ocd on that end. i also dunked for 12 hours and have a humidifier in the room that runs here and there. but yes getting a couple cakes out of the jars i did have to pry a little. hoping this is only from that.
thanks for the replies !

And your eyes have never moved away from the hygrometer 24h a day since you birthed the cakes? Not so likely. It doesn't take a long time for small substrates to dry out way too quickly and bruise inside a tub with 500 holes in it. I'm sayi g this from a fair amou t of experience and experiments involving fruiting BRF cakes. I have seen 5-10% of new growers have good success with BRF cakes inside SGFC, I'm just saying what I've observed so far.

And I've seen 80-90% decent success of new growers fruiti g BRF cakes inside the Humidity Chamber. I want you to have success. Statistically speaking..
How often do you mist your cakes?

understood, deff could be drying out then. so more misting would you suggest?

No, the opposite. Less misting and less FAE. It's not a weed plant and doesn't require tons of fresh air every hour. It requires stabile evaporation to stimulate pin production. Over misting is just as bad as undermisting. But there's really no way to compensate too fast evaporation with too much misting, it's just a matter of time before you lose that balance and when cakes start to go south they go south fast. Check out the Tek I'm promoting to you and see the results for yourself and how hands off it is compared to SGFC. Not to mention the increased chance for success of course.
3-5times a day is too much. I don't list one single time from birthing the cakes to harvest. And I get great results

interesting ive never stumbled upon this tek. i will have to give that a try next.
but in regards to this grow you forsee the cakes going south fast. how often should i mist?

i used to fan and mist once a day when i did cakes. if you dunked them for 24 hrs prior to placing them in the sgfc you will be fine. also you have pins, so you are going to get fruit

You shouldn't need to mist very much if at all with the Humidity Chamber, but in regards to the SGFC I really can't tell you what you need to do except make sure the cakes evaporate constantly but not too fast, and that's the hard part when you're a new grower, and that's why the HC is much better suited for new growers imo. Small chance of fucking up with too much FAE, and small chance of fucking it up by having to mist alot to compensate for too fast evaporation.

Just out of curiosity, how many cakes have you done so far and what success rate did you have? You don't seem to be offering specific diagnostics on what is happening to BRF cakes inside sgfcs and you don't mention the dynamics of why your methods work (like fanning). I'm trying to educate the grower on how the dynamics of evaporation and speed of evaporation affects the cakes and what roll the humidity inside fruiting chambers play. I'm trying to explaine detailed technical aspects of growing BRF cakes and why I do it successfully and you only say "you will have fruits, you're fine, it's just bruising" and these statements are not particularly informative in terms of how BRF cakes are grown. Let's learn something new about BRF cakes instead of repeating the same old decade old misinformation. Times have moved on

update. and quick question.
after reading a few posts and being steered away from the sgfc im wondering if after first flush would i be able grate these cakes to bulk in a shoebox or would that stall a new colonization?

The short answer is no, cakes spawned right after birth do better that somewhat dried out cakes that have been fruiting for several weeks. And cakes do better as cakes. (pour 1/2 inch of water into a (which ever) container you feel like, tyen place the cakes inside the contsiner on top of lids or alu foil or whatever and you have constructed a Humidity Chamber) the bruised cakes will start to recover instantley as they react to their new climate in the more humid fruiting setup, myc will start to regenerate all over the cake if the surface is too damaged. Id dunk the cskes for a few hours before relocating them. Gl

alrighty it was for sure them being to dry. i have been giving them more attention and they seem to be looking healthier and much more pins coming around. But i have noticed this blob appear on one of the cakes that looks out of the ordinary.
