I go into trips with zero intentions. I weigh the dose, take the dose, make sure I'm somewhere safe and comfy.. and let the trip unfold itself. Things get crazy.. but then I will get these thoughts that rain upon me, thinking about each one but not clinging - talking to.. myself.. or the mushrooms?
Not sure. But I definitely have full on conversation with myself. My latest trip was how much things have changed over the course of 10/12 years.. that we are all pretty much cyborgs now. Everything's on a screen. Newspaper is foreign. Just weird shit of such. I was thinking about how happy I lived the last generation before technology took over.
Having to go and knock at a friends house to see if they could come out and play.. look for the big batch of bikes hanging out near a lot to know where your friends were at. I was riding this memory lane and was so extremely grateful.
Another thought that came across to me was : it's okay to be selfish. If you don't want to do something (example) - it was a family members birthday party. I didn't want to go because I had a long day and wanted to go to the gym and enjoy my day how I wanted to. I didn't end up going. I thought about this in my trip and said "THAT'S OKAY". Life's short. Do what YOU want to do, even if it doesn't make others happy. You're not obligated.
These were all things I confronted without any intentions. They just come to me and I have these conversations with myself.. with such depth and clarity - better than most conversations I have with other people.
Sounds like I'm crazy. Even when typing this it sounds crazy. But under a good amount of mushrooms, you're introducing your subconscious within your current awareness - it does make for a hell of an awakening as well as a conversation.

And then sometimes, 10 years down the road, you dig up that old note while deep-cleaning and it all clicks. Your mind has a moment reminiscent bewilderment. Only this time, thanks to seasoning of your mind, you're able to aptly correlate it to the facets of being that it's compatible to. Some things make more sense now, all thanks to this stupid easter egg you decided to hide from yourself. You find yourself giving your past self a little more credit than he might have given himself.

I always feel like people misinterpret the meaning of intention. It's not my intention to correct them, because whatever interpretation works for you, works. But I think 'intention' simply just means to have purposeful and deliberate action - allow yourself some direction so to not let yourself stray too far away from a desired course, or, worse, get caught in a loop. In other words, follow the setting sun to end up west, but take whatever trails that might provoke your intrigue along the way. This will keep you from walking in circles or landing east of where you started.
It seems like people tend to interpret it as something more like, 'On this trip, I will approach and focus on __, and everything I experience will be pertinent to __.' Which can of course work and be helpful, but it's really not the nature of the effects of these substances a lot of the time.

I think you're right.
I think intention and expectation get tangled in these discussions. I think everyone has some basic intentions when they go on such an experience (healing, meeting the transcendental, just a fun time, etc). However, when those intentions become expectations, i.e I expect to see OEV's on my 4g dose or I must heal this or that trauma on this dose, is when the experience starts to diminish (especially when expectations aren't met).

For sure. You hear so often of people being disappointed or underwhelmed by their experience, and that would be where a different interpretation of 'intention' (one without the attached expectations) might be helpful in appreciating whatever your experience had to offer you.

I’m tending towards all of you guys 👍🏻
I’ve tried a few times unsuccessfully setting intentions. A recent failure that was also a success was simply to bring some objects along with me on the trip and look at them. I read so much in so many places about people looking at flowers, crystals, photos, etc. So one trip just before Christmas, I got my collection of crystals in a bowl and a collection of shells. Had to deliberately make myself open my eyes to look at the,. I even had my reading glasses on ready. But imagine my disappointment; the crystals were blurry as heck and I could not focus on them. And what made matters worse was they seemed to be overwritten with shed loads of minute hieroglyphic like symbols, also there were plan views of Aztec cities all over them. So that actually looked pretty cool, even though I didn’t see any “crystal”!
I have only ever set an intention once that I’ve stuck to and has been resolved during a trip. For a couple of weeks leading up to the trip I was researching depression treatment with psilocybin and watching loads of videos etc. Got a plan from watching a Rosalind Watts video on the UK studies. And as she warned, the trip got real scary so I did what she suggested:
I told the mushrooms that I had come to them for help, so why didn’t they help me. The intensity calmed down, I put headphones on and Hawkwind Space Ritual, shut my eyes for 3 hours, and travelled back in my head to the 20 year old me that was just discovering psychedelics. And working through my 45 years of depression, since I was 8!, the mushrooms taught me valuable lessons.
My depression was non-existent for 11 months. It started to come back, but recent trips with no intentions just gave me really frigging great after-glows. I no longer consider myself depressed.
So adding to you guys, I don’t use intentions anymore; the trips are rewarding enough by just letting them take you where they want. But I recognise the value in using mushrooms as therapy in which set and setting are totally geared towards that intention and then discipline is maintained in the trip so as to focus your thoughts on your intention.

I want to go in to the experience with some deep questions or ideas to think about when I'm in a state of enhanced perspective. Does anyone else do this? What are some questions or topics you like to ponder whilst tripping?
So far the questions I have are: - what's more obscure; the thought of extraterrestrial life or being completely alone in the universe?
-did human DNA drift through space from a different planet and eventually land on earth? If so I what is our ancestors home planet is like
- what is outside of the universe?
- are mushrooms celestial beings?
- does psilocybin make you trip as a defence mechanism against predators?
- where did I put that joint I rolled last night?
Thanks for reading everyone! See you on the other side🍄✌
Did you get any answers?
