What is the Oatmeal Diet?
The Oatmeal Diet is a simple weight loss program that promises weight loss the “healthy” way. By essentially replacing all daily meals with oatmeal, the Oatmeal Diet fills you up with high fiber but low calorie food.
BRRRRRRRRR WILBURRRR !
Lets make this a topic about diets that worked for people you know and most specifically you, and diets that didnt.

I tried a bunch of weight-gain diets to no avail. I even did the fast food challenge (nothing but McD’s Burger King and Subway for 4 weeks). I work out but it just makes me look like Jesus on the cross.

I think you need to structurally add more accessible protein to your diet.
Since you are thin as well as lean, nuts and cheese come to mind.
If you divide more protein across your day, even without extra exercise, your body will afford more bulky muscles to store it.
Don't eat excess fast food man, it will make you sick.

It was out of desperation - I was sick and tired of being stick-figure guy, and tried everything else I knew of...one of my dumb buddies mentioned the challenge like “oh you just eat like a hippie so you stay thin bruh, just eat junk food errry day bruh.” Smthn like that...
Anyway, I tried supplementing with protein shakes 2-3 times daily, but it just made me shit like clockwork. Is that what you meant by adding proteins? Or just eating actual nuts and cheese every day?
Still thinking about doing a couple of months of raw/paleo diet.

Its much better eating whole foods than eating supplements.
If you eat actual portions of nuts, cheese and other protein sources, they'll incorporate better.
Those bodybuilder shakes are for those who actually haul heavy kettlebells in the gym most of the week, and who might take steroids.

Those tend to make you thinner still.
Eating lots of veggies is good and you should do it, but for you there must be a good amount of calories from starches, fats and proteins in it or you'll lose weight.

Keto made me sick I had to discontinue after 3 months. Lost 33lbs during those months, but also got sick. Not long after I had my heart attack.
I don't buy the keto concept.

The year of the Metal Rat isn't playin'

Chinese horoscopes for this year were all like "the year of the metal rat doesnt necessarily mean ill health but.."
No shit, right at the kickoff they have SARS-2 and 700 million people in quarantine.
Its gonna be a very hardcore year.

Not exactly a diet, but intermittent and extended fasts has not only helped me drop weight, but helped with my energy level and mental focus and discipline.

My best diets were the ones where I divided food across the day, ate normal foods and introduced a moderate caloric deficit along with exercise.
Normal foods throughout the day, in moderation - and stay in motion.

On a side note, maybe a weight loss thread would be interesting. Like weekly weigh ins and motivation

I use, "Lose It!", the calorie counter app. It tracks my food intake, scans barcodes for easier entry, tracks weight loss, exercise, etc. I like seeing my caloric intake on paper; it helps me maintain focus and keep my diet in check.
I allow one cheat day a week but I don't exactly pig out. I'll eat shitty foods but still get my cardio in that morning. I also drink 1-2oz of diluted ACV after my cheat meal to prevent an insulin spike.
I do all of my own cooking, also, so that helps tremendously with keeping the intake accurate and controlled. I love to cook so this is not a problem. I can make bland turkey burgers to die for.
Here's what the app looks like:

For me anything that involves counting calories and living in a deficit results in weightloss.
But for this method to give me anything that resembles a bearable lifestyle I need to do:
- Paleo
or
- Keto
Anything low-carb basically. Carbs just dont give me the sustenance I need to make it through the day without major cravings.
Cutting out rice, beans, potatoes and all processed foods does 90% of the trick

Lose weight = create a caloric deficit (almost doesn't matter WHAT you eat, regarding this point and only to make this point; DEFICIT = WEIGHT LOSS NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE EATING/NOT EATING).
Gain weight = create a caloric surplus (almost doesn't matter WHAT you eat, regarding this point and only to make this point; SURPLUS = WEIGHT GAIN NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE EATING/NOT EATING).
Depending on personal biology, medical needs, etc. - food choice is ALMOST superfluous regarding weight loss/gain. Notice I didn't say anything regarding actual health, just caloric intake here, folks.
