Azurescens/Cyanescens spawn jars question
    #26492226 - 02/18/20 06:02 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hey Fam,

First off, I hope everyone is doing well out there in the shroomery world! Now, I have a question for y'all.. I have started a couple outdoor beds on the central Oregon coast, one of Azurescens and one of Cyanescens. Both patches were started from colonized wood (respectfully) gathered near the mouth of the Columbia River. I mixed them with fresh Alder wood from recently fallen and/or cut alder trees around the area. I am happy to say that both patches are looking very healthy with quite noticeable mycelium growth coming from the mother wood pieces.

So, today, I added some fresh wood chips to each patch and moved some colonized pieces around hoping for more even growth in areas of substrate that weren't colonizing yet.

While I was doing that, I decided to start a couple mason jars with spawn and substrate. The spawn being a few colonized wood chips from each patch and the substrate being uncolonized alder flakes. I put 6 or 7 small colonized wood chips evenly throughout the substrate in each mason jar, hoping to colonize the whole thing and spread the mycelium further. My question is about storage. What is my best tek for storing these jars? I am thinking in the basement/garage, which is not heated and gets a little indirect light. Am I okay to simply poke holes in the tops of them for airflow since nothing is sterile? Also, what would you recommend me do for moisture content/water? Spray bottle every once in a while? Pour water to pool at the bottom? Any help would be much appreciated by me and the mycelium of these wonderful mushrooooms!! Thanks in advance. Here's a pic of the jars..

- Jah
