The Best Web Browser For Windows 10 64-Bit? * 2
    #26491011 - 02/18/20 12:59 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Hey what's up, guys and girls. I've never really introduced myself here due to anxiety and fear of being rejected/not fitting in but my name is Seth and I'm a 29 year old white guy who was born in Florida, but has lived in Ireland since January 8th, 2016 because my dad was born in Ireland but went to the Usa when he was 20, but was finally deported back after being sent to prison for 11 years when I was 14. My life in the Usa wasn't going so well (I was forced to be homeless because I fought back when people tried to abuse me) and now here I am, spending most of the time either in my room or in a building like a store, school, etc because it's just always cold and windy as fuck here.

Anyway, I've done all of the research that I can stand to do on web browsers, and I simply cannot make a decision on which browser is the best one. I see the reviews that say one browser is the fastest and most secure, but I really have no way of knowing just how secure it is, as Google Chrome has failed me more than once, in terms of protecting me from catching malware, and I never go to weird sites, uncommon porn sites, etc., I don't click on weird ads, I'm very aware of what I'm doing online. Probably the riskiest site I go to would be a chatsite that doesn't even have SSL (https) security, and I'm pretty sure I've acquired malware or a virus of some kind from it, despite not replying to, or opening a message box from someone, because, about every 10 or 15 keys that I would press on my keyboard, a random key would repeat about 10 to 20 times, which was infuriatingly annoying and I could not, for the life of me, get it to stop, despite using every antivirus or antimalware I could find. Even factory restoring the computer did not stop this from happening, so I quit using Chrome for a while.

So, I am currently using the Avast Secure Browser, which seems to be pretty good, it has Anti-tracking, Anti-fingerprinting, Adblock, (Which are the only 3 built-in extensions that I have enabled and use. It also has HackCheck, HTTPS Encryption, Avast Passwords, Secureline VPN, Bank Mode, Video Downloader. I am no longer using a regular browser if I go to that chat site, or any website that I deem possibly hazardous to my computer. I now use Windows Defender Application Guard to connect to websites I don't trust. It's basically just Microsoft Edge in a separate environment, so as to protect you from malware, viruses, etc. This Application Guard thing is not very fast, it will even freeze completely for a few seconds, which I believe is due to something other than my computer, as my computer is only a couple of months old, and costed about 600 euros to build. It has a MSI Z370-A Pro Motherboard, an Intel i3-8100 3.60GHz processor, a Geforce GT1030 Graphics card, one 8GB stick of 2,400MHz Corsair Vengeance RAM, and a 120GB M.2 SSD hard drive. It is the first computer I have built in my life, and it is the best computer I have ever had. I have had basically no problems at all with it and am happy with it.

Anyway, before I was using Avast SecureBrowser, I was using Google Chrome Dev, which was pretty good. Pretty smooth and fast, and it apparently receives updates early, so I believed it to be more secure than just plain Google Chrome. As far as I know, I never got any malware/viruses when using Google Chrome Dev but it has crashed a few times, and become unresponsive, so I decided to use another browser. So far, Avast SecureBrowser has done pretty well, but like I said, other than the reviews on Google, I really have no way of knowing if it is more secure than a potato.

What's your take? Your opinion on what the best browser is, or what is your favorite web browser and why?

Also, if no one replies to this thread, that's fine. I'm not gonna get mad, or feel dumb. It's just a thread. Nobody is required to reply to it. Thanks.

Might as well be a simple hardware failure in the keyboard itself, possibly exacerbated by dirt/grime in the keyboard. Did you try a different one?

As for the browser thing; I just use Chrome and have had no issues with it. I do use some adblock and popup blocker extensions to keep annoyance at minimum, but haven't experienced security breaches etc. Going by what you write, you've taken reasonable precautions against malware infections and you should be fine on most websites. If you want a more waterproof system, you could consider running Linux instead of Windows as it's significantly less prone to malware. You could even run Linux in a virtual machine so you could still use Windows as your main OS and only use *tux for browsing.

Your keyboard is fucked.
Chrome or firefox just fine.
Just try them all and use what you like

I like Microsoft Edge. I especially like the grey browser trim, its easy on the eyes.

Firefox and Opera are both great browsers too, except for the bright trim (and night mode is too dark for me).

Firefox. I used to use Chrome but there is way to much Google spying going on. Firefox on the other hand is run by a not-for-profit organization that is actively pushing for user privacy.

The other advantage is if you use Firefox on the phone, you can get adblock. Cant do that with Chrome on Android. Google describe themselves as an advertising company so it's not surprising why.

Recently I had to deal with a 'virus' for a family member. They kept getting a popup in the Windows 10 sidebar that would send them to some scam site. Basically my nephew had installed some Chrome extension for a game, that later got brought out by a dodgy dev that added a thing to receive notifications.

If that wasn't anoying enough, Google added a 'feature' when you log into Google/gmail on a Chrome browser, they now seem to automatically log your account into the browser itself without even asking or letting you know. All your extensions/bookmarks/history/passwords sync. So the dodgy extension spreads from his account to his mothers account because he logged into his gmail in the browser when she was logged into the Windows account. Even without the virus that's a massive security nightmare. So I had to uninstall the extension form all the accounts and unlink them so it didn't get reinstalled by st sync stuff. His account even ended up as an extra on my phone and our parents because he used them to watch YouTube at some point. They also have some 'accelerator' feature that basically runs all your requests through their proxy that does things like turn png's into webp but lets them see your full viewing history in the process.

I don't think I would trust the Avast browser, it seems like a great way for them to snoop on user browsing habits to sell to advertisers. Some of the extensions I had to remove where from an antivirus program he installed (not sure if it was Avast or Norton) but those extensions are likely sending data back so they can sell it to advertisers too.

So much shit on your computer is trying to spy on you to sell it to advertisers (and maybe NSA). Windows 10 had that keylogger built into their telemetry so your operating system is doing the same.

For last few years I was using both Firefox and Opera, depending on what device I was. Firefox is probably my favorite one because of addons number and possibility to personalize it.

Lately tho I have switched to Brave browser for couble of reasons.
-It's BAT project that runs in Ethereum environment. It's always good to support projects that You wish to succeed, and I'm hard ETH supporter.
-It's faster. A lot of pages load at doubled speed compared to my previous experience
-Inbuild adblock and tracker blocker

Second this! Brave browser is the fucking shit. Built-in ad blocker, script blocker, cookie blocker, device recognition blocking, https everywhere. It works on any device, and is by far the most effective adblocker I've ever had.

If you are concerned about malware on Win10, my fav antivirus is Malware premium subscription.
