Cubensis culture temperature (plates and slants)

From reading something rr posted apparently tropical species should be kept at 55F. Does anyone successfully store cubensis culture at a lower temperature than that? He says it can lead to poor colenizing ect. I can imagine it's hard to find a fridge that holds that temperature

As far as I know you just dont want it to freeze because it will damage the cell walls. You should be good to 37 degrees with no damage. Maybe wait for a more experienced voice but I'm pretty confident.

I don't even know what temp my mini fridge gets down to. Never thought about it. Haven't noticed any difference in my cultures after storage in the minifridge.

been wondering the same. my mini fridge gets down to 34 and I don't think my cultures are being preserved as well as before in my all-fridge that stayed closer to 39 and up. that thing was great until it crapped out and fried all my hundreds of cultures.

yeah didnt check on them for a while and it was in my clean room that heats up quite a bit from my flowhood while i'm doing sterile work. Then I came back from a couple week vacation expecting to transfer from them, felt a blast of heat come out from the fridge and I knew I was fucked. Still tried with the freshest and my most trustworthy cultures but nothing grew from 64 transfers. Idk if the fridge compressor was heating the inside or if it was just building up heat in there?

Does your fridge have a freezer bit ? The ones with freezers have auto defrost and can go up to a high temp for a little while to defrost

Even cubensis culture? Just from what I've read lower temps in the fridge can cause problems but it seems you guys do okay by putting them in a standard fridge. Rr said 50 to 55F is ideal for tropical species

If you have a fridge that has a lot of temp swings you can use some foam board to build a insulated chamber to protect from temp swings you can also use a insulated lunch box. Quote:

Even cubensis. As long as your cultures aren't freezing they should spring back to life. Freezing is bad news though.
