Black with Morel-Like Craters on Stem

Habitat:in woods under doug fir. Solitary. Found in PNW: puget sound area

Gills: folds (no teeth, gills or pores)


Stem:black to dark brown craters (not reticulation) these might serve as the reproductive part if the fruit as there arent any gills or pores, etc. Stem looks like a black Morel cap. Very bouncey and strong. Is hollow. Dia:1/2" Leng:4"

Cap: small and lacks gills/pores etc. Instead there are 5 or so attached folds.

The underside is a lighter grey and the top of the cap is very dark brown to blackish and is flat with frays near the Dia:2"

I think it's a Helvella sp.
Maybe H. phlebophora?

Oh wow. I have seen any of these kinda classified anywhere until i searched it. Are there any identifiers i could look for to narrow the species down?

After some research, I agree with Helvella. But it doesn't seem to correspond to any species I've been able to find descriptions of. It may well be a currently undescribed species.

Do you still have it?
