Great TEK!
I'm a total (with some caveats) nooby here and I'm so impressed that I had to say THANK YOU".
You obviously put a lot of effort into this, and I really appreciate it.
As for the caveats; I'm a retired Engineer, and probably on the OCD spectrum.
I think I'll read it again now, bye.....

OBTW, RE:Caveats,
I've been a member of the Colorado Mycological society, I've led forays there (basically to sites, it was their show) with Aurora and Lincoff, worked with Harry Tiers and Dennis Dejardin at our annual mushroom festival.
I've never, with any certainty, even seen a mushroom of the Psilocybe Genus. But I would really love to. They just don't grow where i live. SO......I guess I'll have to fix that.....
Joe.

My last SAB was a complete failure, mostly due to volume. This might solve my issues

So I love this build with the magnetic vent covers. However after some time the magnetic vent covers don’t stay put as much. They get wrinkled or the magnetism kinda weakens. So I simply use box tape to hold them in place. I put a line across the top and bottom so when I lift the vent cover it flips up on the top of the sab and I can do my work. Then I flip it back down between workflow to let the air settle and strap the bottom piece of tape. It’s a cool build sbj!
I also don’t really follow any of the principles of the sab outlined in a few write ups. I do steady movements, not fast, I use items in the sab as shielding from anything falling from above like tops of lids on quart jars during inoculation. I do use the lid of my sab as my working surface as I get far more work area out of it. I just douse my walls, ceiling and floor with 70 iso, let it stay drenched and then put these cookie racks in there to elevate everything. I don’t have to worry about much contamination as I get very few doing it this way. I was using the sab lid or floor without anything on the bottom for years but I kinda like the cookie racks for elevating my work area. I don’t see that it makes any difference if the technique is proper.
You can see how I flip the magnet covers up over the top of the sab while I do work. Then flip them back down between work intervals to allow air to settle.
Cookie rack but it isn’t required

 Some action
Example of tilting and using the pasty plate lid as a barrier from particles falling.

As always Eat. Nice post.. but can someone tell me where SBJ went? I sure do miss chatting with him, I learned the other day via this form that Muda has passed on and I'm starting to worry about my OG's.

Alot of people left the forum. People come and go. I left for about two years and everyone that was around during your time was gone when I came back.

sorry for the noob question, but... if you have to do all your flame sterilisation outside the box, doesnt that also mean that you need to sanitise your gloves with alcohol every time you return your hands into the box again?

Noob as well, but I'd like to try and answer from the info I've gathered studying different threads -- hopefully someone can correct me if I'm mistaken on anything.
From my understanding, the SAB is not meant to be *completely* sterile, it's used to create a work environment where potential contaminating particles are less likely to mingle with the material you are working with.
You do your flame sterilization outside of the box because 1. you want the metal that is coming into direct contact with your live material to be sterilized, and 2. creating a flame inside the box will create air movement, thereby defeating the purpose of the "Still-air" box

1) as Spitball said. 2) Why let dust, spores, etc accumulate? Still air is good. Cleaner air helps.

6 years or not. I love these magnetic vent covers for my sab! Its an awesome idea. I do prefer 110quart or bigger sab so i can at least fit 15 receiving quarts in it. Comparatively i could fit 50 in my shmuvbox with a 55 gallon lawn bag attached.

If I do spray the walls with water soap how long do I have to wait for the water to settle in the sab before using?

When I do that, I usually take a quick shower and brush my teeth. Put on a fresh cool long sleeve shirt, and running pants, glove up and get to work.

I have a reflective grow tent that stays at 20°. Is that a still enough environment if the zippers are zipped to do this? Thanks, I offered from Grumpy Gills.
