ph question
    #2648837 - 05/07/04 02:24 AM (14 years, 17 days ago)

Well when making a casing I ran out of verm so I topped it off with peat moss. The mycellium started to come though the top after about 3 weeks. Today I stripped the peat and put down some fresh verm. The peat had next to no colonization other than where it had poked through. I had no sign of pins durring this whole time, this is why I stripped the peat. Could I have not been getting pins due to ph probs? I didn't test the ph or try to modify it at all. I hope my casing pins soon. I hope I wasn't being to impatient stripping off the peat, I wasn't sure if it had contamed or something. The peat didn't have any odd smells and all below the peat was well colonized verm. the peat came off real easy and clean.

Peat moss is quite acidic, so this would
have slowed things down a lot, you would
have gotten pins in time, but I think you
prob did the right thing by recasing.

Hope you get pins soon.
