Mazatapec grow kit - Mushroom grows really slow

Hi,
I'm trying to grow a Mazatapec Mushroom with a special grow kit.
After 2 weeks there were about 2 small mushrooms but now after 2 more weeks there are only a few more and each is still small.
Is It normal for such slow growth? I keep the temp around 20-21 C and give it a fresh air every day with 1-2 times spray of water.
I'm attaching photos. I would appreciate any help!

This thread was moved from The Ethnobotanical Garden.
Reason: off topic for the garden, best asked here.

Hi,
I started with a mazapatec grow kit as well.. Have you loosened the top layer of vermiculite and the substrate well enough with a fork? That seemed to get things going for me. I have had three harvests from one box and now have enough to keep me going for a lifetime. What you could/should do, is try and make a spore print from one or two of your mushrooms and then a spore syringe (info can be found here on the site) and start from there on with inoculating either a liquid culture/ grain jar or make a new PF TEK cake (at the moment I'm doing all three, I have quite a few spore prints from my mazapatec mushrooms.. if one substrate fails, I can only hope the others don't. But try loosening the vermiculite and substrate some more. You have soaked the substrate well enough for it to be completely full of moisture?
Hope with these few tips you can get things going.
There are a lot of happy trippers here who can give you some more or even better tips.
Cheers
Pieter

I'd take a fresh mushroom and make a clone on agar over making a print and syringe when getting started. Agar is far easier than inexperienced people something think. I'm not saying the previous poster was wrong about making prints or liquid culture, but making a clone is easier in my opinion for a noob than making clean liquid culture is. Good luck.

Take it out of the bag.. don't scratch it with a fork and get some better lighting in 12/12 cycles. They look like underdeveloped poor lighting mushrooms that need air.
I would even mist at this point lightly water the vermiculite area directly with a syringe and some tap water. Try not to get the pins wet though.

Thanks, guys for the advice! Does it mean that my growing failed?
As I'm a complete noob in that topic could you direct me to the Thread or some Article that is related to :
"I'd take a fresh mushroom and make a clone on agar over making a print and syringe when getting started. "
I would appreciate this very much and do my best to get it back to live ^^!

Pieter
I did as the instruction said, just a few holes with a fork nothing more:
2. Make some holes in the top layer with a clean fork. Divide the holes regularly between the GrowKit (6 to 8 rows of holes is enough). This allows the substance to absorb the water better
3. Fill the GrowKit with lukewarm water (20ºC) to the edge. Put the lid back and let the GrowKit soak for one hour
4.After soaking, remove the lid from the GrowKit and gently drain the excess water. Drain the GrowKit 5 to 10 seconds
Should I loosen vermiculite more?

Yeah DONT POKE THEM WITH A FORK!!!!!
I just wanted to make sure I was clear on that. It's an old mystery that someone said could help with Overlay, which in 15 years I am still not convinced I have ever seen.
Buy a light that is as close to 6500k and use it over your chamber about 3ft, (I just put one in the ceiling and don't worry to much about itm Then introduce it to 12/12 light cycles and it should give you some shrooms.
Also if you get border read my growkits suck link in the signature. It's old and probably outdated.

I would love to read your post but is it seriously outdated or it was just a sarcasm?
I will put them below the light but should I put them back to the grow back after some time ? How long should I keep them under the additional light?
Thanks!

Yeah grow kits definitely suck, even when they work. They are hard to debug, becauseits hard for us to tell what you did wrong vs what the kit maker did wrong. Many of us started with them (including myself) and even if we had success, we now evangelize against them.
People get them because they think it will save them trouble, but almost always you'd be better off learning how to prep your own spawn and substrates, especially if you jump into agar
