APEs bruising blue in jars

So I’ve got 2 Jars of APE on oats inoculated 1/11 with a small wedge from petri dish. They both look extra fluffy and thick white, overall looks like what people usually associate with bacterial contamination. I’m starting to believe that the APE mycelium just inherently looks thicker even if it’s healthy. Every single one of my APE jars has that weird look lately, while simultaneously I’ve had success with 20+ Golden Teacher jars concurrently. Anybody else want to weigh in? Can you tell your APE grain jars from typical cube strains just by looking at the mycellium? If yes, what’s the difference. Also APEs are always harder to break up for me and they take an extra week to colonize.
So even though the jars looked somewhat off I was about to spawn them today. I shook the first one and it actually broke up with ease and looked normal. The second one was very difficult and I could barely get it to break up at all after shaking it as hard as possible. I sat it down for a few minutes then returned and noticed it had stained blue inside. Weird! Does this ever happen to anybody else? Would you still spawn this funky lookin jars or just toss em?

Thanks!

Looks bacterial, but if you have some extra shoeboxes, fuck it spawn it. Doesn't look bad enough to throw it out. I have definitely had APE bruise while shaking, usually after shaking too long (>5 minutes). No you can't tell different varieties by their mycelium. Aside from the fact that APE jars do turn into fucking solid concrete when fully colonized lol

Is it anybody’s opinion that APEs are more susceptible to contams/bacteria? I keep getting the cheese/ice cream in my APEs but not in my other strains inoculated with the exact same techniques
I’ve noticed the same that they seam prone to over consolidate and sometimes turn very solid, I assume it’s just because it’s such a wildly mutated strain. I usually don’t spawn anything as sketchy as these but I’m curious to see if the solid jar would make it or not... the bruising reaction got me interested. if I go thru with it in the morning then I’ll post results later

Negative Batman, no variety is any more susceptible than any other. You may have some bacteria interlaced with the mycelium of your Apes. You can try transferring "upside down" so the mycelium is sandwiched between agar to see if that helps the myc outrun the bacteria. I've also heard good things about hot pouring, you could look into that.
Time how long it takes to break up your jar. If at 5 minutes, there's still a solid "nucleus" of grain that is about 50% of the jar, toss it. If the nucleus exists but it's a small portion of the jar, spawn it and break it up by hand.
