Fruiting just around the edges

This is my first bulk grow and was admittedly careless with the moistures level in my casing layer (pure verm) which I just soaked in water. I'm fairly sure this lead to the partial drowning of my substrate and its odd and unproductive fruiting pattern with it only pinning around the very edges and them falling over due to lack of support. The other Posobilty is low FAE as I dont fan but I have plenty of micropoured holes so I wouldn't think that's the case. I just wanted to get your thoughts on whether it was an overwatering issue like I suspected and if not what it could have been. Thanks!

Pure verm is a very poor casing material. No need to worry about fanning, the fae is passive.
I don't have a direct answer, it is related to the verm casing though, there may be a better second flush.
Not so bad though, besides one newbie mistake those are some fruits, congrats
(I use ~1qtcoir/verm from bucket Tek recipie (80/20, coir/verm) from each tub to apply a casing at spawning).
You probably know but cloning will get you more reliable results. Many people do test runs of a few clones and save the genetics of the donor plate in the fridge so when the results come in they can go back to the stored genetics and expand them from there on a larger effort with more regularity and repeatability.

Thanks!! your right it's a great first try Interesting, I was thinking pure verm would be good as it has no nutritional value so contamination would be less of an issue. But obviously its ridiculously high water retention messed me up so I was wrong there. My only concern with using Coir is that the mycelium would grow into the casing layer instead of fruiting. Have you had any problems with that? I would love to clone but am a little intimidated/still learning the rest to venture into that realm!
Thanks so much for your advice!

There's no more likely hood of contamination using a coir/verm casing than without.
Checkout this thread, I posted a bunch of quotes on casing from TCS. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26486640
It's fine if the myc eats the casing layer, depending on the depth of the layer substrates will fruit when ever it's done colonizing. Some times the casing is colonized, other times the casing is thick enough that it won't colonize and fruits will just push through, often it's partially colonized - all are fine - you'll see examples of both following that link.

Put a 6500k light bulb on top of that tub. Those mushrooms are trying to find light pretty bad!

That's something I didn't think about! I've got a 65W 5000K bulb but its pretty far away I'll see if I can get it closer and see if that helps.

Put it a couple inches away from the top of the lid. You’ll get some good fruits!
