Im taking to much kratom
    #26487091 - 02/15/20 01:26 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I take 1 teaspoon (~2.5g) 5-15 times a day, I live off of governmental assistance and kratom is kinda expensive where I live ($150 after tax a kg) and I seem to go though a kg a month

id like to get my usage down to 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day, I dont even get high off kratom anymore, and I dont have chronic pain, I just take it cause im addicted

I tried to quit once, I went to my gf's on a friday and didnt bring any with me, I planned on going back home on monday cause I could have gotten a free ride home on monday, but I only made it till sunday and I ordered a cab home to dose, I didnt really have any symptoms other then yawning and runny nose, but I had intense urges just to take some for the sake of taking some

I even spent all my money this month on it, because I usually buy 1 kratom, but my vendor had a deal buy 2 kratoms get one free, so I spent $300 and I only get like $350 a month after I pay rent, but the good thing is I now have 3kg kratom, If I can reduce my usage so that lasts even 4 months instead of 3 that will do wonders for my financial situation

I just dont know what to do

I had been taking 4g 4+ times a day daily for a year straight when I decided to try something different.

For me, I had to quit cold turkey and ended up laying in bed for 3 days sick.  Could have been worse.  It was like a 5 out of 10 on the opiate withdrawal scale.

Ended up quitting cigarettes at the same time too because they made me sick when I tried smoking them while quitting kratom.

With 3kg laying around I would find it really hard to quit those daily habits you have going.  I tried to cut down kratom rather than quit multiple times but couldn't do it but some folks can pull it off.

Don’t order more when you run out. You’ll be in for a rough week or two, but then it’ll be done with. Replace it with positive stuff such as exercise. Working out was hands down the most important thing in helping me stay clean & start feeling good about myself/life again after I quit dope. All these years later, and having quit going to meetings years ago, it’s still the biggest thing that I do for myself that keeps me from shooting dope again.

I can't imagine reducing your intake is a realistic goal, any addiction or habit I've had has only slowed down by ceasing it altogether. In the case of substance, by simply not buying anymore and eliminating ease of access.

Working out is a great way to replace a bad habit. Good luck to ya

Just stop.

I've been in a place where I was taking that much or more daily for 6-9 months at a stretch.

When I stopped I felt really shitty for like 2.5 days. Then meh for 36 hours. Then I felt fine. Seriously, day 5 I was back at 100%. No more waking up in the middle of the night feeling like shit and compulsively redosing just to get a couple more hours of sleep. No more throwing up and then redosing immediately. Maybe you can relate. My life is infinitely better.

You can stop, too.

Having things to look forward to in the future helps.

Get some responsibilities. Why do you live off of government assistance? Are you disabled? If not, get a job. Simply having an obligation to fulfill helps many people.

I did use a substance called Agmatine to help me quit. I don't really know how much it helped or didn't, but lots of people online say it helps them. It's totally nonaddictive, when it ran out I just stopped using it and I feel exactly the same. They sell it at vitamin/workout/supplement shops, or fancy grocery stores on the workout supplements/foods aisle.

And I'm with Dark Star that exercise has been the #1 thing to help me keep my shit together. Even if I make a mistake, I can feel how it impacts my ability to work out. Working out gives me a mindfulness of body that I did not previously possess, and allows me to correct course much more quickly when I act in ways that are not mindful of body.

Agmatine has a wealth of uses, I'll second that recommendation. But it won't quit for you, everything else that has been said here is still paramount.

Times when I have quit kratom taking as much as you, the key was

1. high intensity exercise. Maximal effort interval sprints maybe? Take a bit break in-between, that doesn't matter, the key is maximal effort. Those natural endorphins hit those receptors and you are golden

2.  Make a schedule. Usually I would not dose for the day until noon or 1230, then schedule a 3g dose at 3:30 and then another 3g dose at 6:30.

3. Do not go cold-turkey unless you are 100% committed, cause you will fail. Then you won't even want to try again.

I have found that titrating my dose down is actually pretty easy if I exercise. Got to watch yourself so you do not just go back up though.

Also, why don't you try exactly what you did when you went to your girlfriends house, except instead of bringing none, bring 3 3g doses for each day you will be there.

I almost guarantee that will work. With how poor you are, you will not find it worth a taxi to go get more lol

I feel like everyone either says stop or it's fine, do it all day every day as long as it's less. Or how about.. (quit) or you know.. NOT do it every day. Do not listen to the above who claims willpower an intangible foe. Be the "I'm fine, I'm not gonna die" guy instead  of the guy who has the sads he's without his tree dope and feels like a big boo boo without it.

Damn, I thought kratom was supposed to be good for you? I remember the guy who directed Prescription Thugs came out on Joe Rogan to protest the government's plan to make kratom an illegal drug. He talked about how miraculous and wonderful it is, etc etc. Maybe he was an addict?

I don't get it.

So why do people start taking kratom to begin with? Is it like caffeine? Or does it get you high?

it has a honeymoon phase that gets you really high, but it quickly fades and is only good as a pain killer after that, its mildy addictive as it hits the same receptors as dope, but its only a partial agonist, where as opiates are a full agonist, it also has antagonist in it so you cant really abuse it by taking too much

I actually reduced the amount I took over time, I used to take 2 teaspoons, but I switched to one teaspoon, lets see someone do that with oxy

Do you feel happy, though?

You can.

It just takes a little bit more willpower than you've been exhibiting.

Give yourself a chance. Try it. 5 days. If it sucks too much, kratom will still be there.

I agree with folks here.

If you have an addiction replace that bad habit with a good habit, working out was a great idea. Or anything else that can just feel as rewarding like cooking food! (That's what I do). But real talk sell whatever you have left and cut off the supply and get the new good habit going. We believe in ya.

For me this leaf has been wonderful. It has all sorts of benefits to offer if used wisely and in moderation. Besides the direct action/effects that it has, it is also loaded with anti-oxidants and other beneficial compounds that seem to have some anti-cancer properties, good for the immune system, good for blood sugar, etc etc.

It's great for folks that are trying to quit or stay away from potent opioids/H or other drugs...It's great for folks that have mild to moderate pain and don't want to get hooked on pharmaceutical opioids, lots of elderly folks take it...It's great for energy/stamina...There are all sorts of different uses and reasons people take this leaf.

I use it as a "medicine" and not something just to purely catch a buzz/high on.

I take it for anxiety, depression, energy, and mild aches & pains...Instead of drinking coffee, taking adderall, taking a benzo, taking an SSRI, etc etc...A few grams of kratom works just dandy for me.

Take enough and there is some pleasant feels to it for some people...but for me it also has a "ceiling", where taking more beyond a certain point only brings out unwanted side effects and won't create more of a "high". (my typical dose is 2g taken twice a day....If I take anymore than 5g at once I feel like shit)

Even after 7+ years I still take the same amounts around the same time every day and it still works just fine for me.

If one is taking kratom just purely to catch a buzz/to get "high"...then people are likely just going to dig themselves into a hole, especially if they're doing so daily.

Even then...the withdrawal from kratom is pretty mild and short lasting.

Depending on what your "experience with quitting drugs" is like, there's different ways you can make the process easier. From my experience, the only way that works for me is to just fully stop taking the substance. Generally if I have whatever substance left, I try to space out my doses as much as possible to give my body a bit of an easier time going cold-turkey once the substance runs out.

With kratom you will have to deal with opiate withdrawals, you can try taking a look at loperamide as a method of reducing some of the opiate withdrawal symptoms.

Kratom saved my life. They ever ban it, more people would relapse on H overnight. Do people who take kratom typically display the behavior of those doing hard drugs? Stealing, pimping, or whoring? I never seen those behaviors in order to get a fix from kratom.
