amount and size of holes in fruiting bag?
    #26483151 - 02/13/20 05:55 AM (4 years, 3 days ago)

Hey,
I just made a couple bags of oyster in straw, but I was unsure of the correct amount and size of breathing holes I need to make for the substrate.

Usually I have been making a randomly amount of x-slits in the bag, but sometimes it feels like its not enough.

What do you guys do???

Peace,

Depends on the size of the bags. But I am fairly sure there are ten million threads about holes on here. Since you are feeling you are not putting enough holes, you could run an experiment and try different ways to see what you get. I also know there are threads on this all over here so you could grab the search and see what others have done then adjust your experiment from there. Personally right now I am running 5 lb bags and just running 1 hole which is a small cut square so I don't have plastic peeling up from the sub after the 1st flush.

Yeah it really doesn't make much difference.  If you do more holes you'll get fewer mushrooms out of each hole.  Do fewer holes and you'll get bigger clusters.  Just don't do too many, the more you do the more it will dry out.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
