rate my plate

..newbie here - got a few PF jars cooking, and my first minitub on the way - I may have got a little carried away - I've built a still air box, got some plates, and am learning a lot about mycology.

So, I've tried to transfer some mycelium to a plate from grain spawn I grew from a syringe of Ecuadorian. After 8 days - it looks like the image above - and is growing strong.

I am worried tho - there seems to be 2 kinds of mycelium - the coarse branchy stuff - and the fine, more wispy stuff on the bottom right. I tried a couple of transfers - but they seem to show the same variation - is this contamination ? (I'm pretty sure the course stuff is good -not too sure about the fine stuff tho)

Anyway - let me know - do I keep transferring - chuck it out - high five myself - I really dont know.

Thanks.

I'd say it is 90% good news.  So much strong healthy growth.  You are right to have concern over the bottom right.  That likely indicates a contamination and the mycelium in that area is struggling with it.  So I wouldn't use this as your final plate.

But take a lot of transfers to preserve all that growth, You see the main threads, take a transfer from each.  I would take 3-5 transfers from this plate.  3 minimum to grab each of those big sectors.  4 and 5 are the smaller sectors bordering the contaminated area.  Take these if you want to capture each sector, but if you just want to keep it simple you could leave them since they are smaller and more likely to bring a contaminant along.

I see you already grabbed transfers from this plate, but I would still take more before you retire it.
