casing layer colonization
    #26486256 - 02/14/20 10:39 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

hello everyone, first time growing mush, curious as to how colonized the casing layer should be before fruiting, here is a pic of what i have so far, should it be fuzzier? i've read that some people don't let it colonize fully or at all when using a casing layer. does this look alright?

What’s your substrate? How many days has it been since spawn?

Most people put there bulk grows into fruiting conditions right from spawn these days.

Psilocybe cubensis, with straw substrate, its been 3 days fruiting, i let the substrate colonize for 12 days then cased it, at let it colonize for another 5 days.

What did you case with?

It looks really wet and clumpy.. that might be why it’s taking so long to colonize.
Maybe increase fae and let it dry out a little.

cased it with a top soil type mix, it didn't really seem all that wet, the soil was just naturally clump, couldn't really "sprinkle" it on, i also noticed the RH is rather low

yup, you assume correct, my friend tried it a while back, had good results, my house isn't very optimal for keeping a controlled climate.
