My first dry weed vaporizer 1

So I went to the local head shop today and picked up a PAX vaporizer that the cute sales girl sold me on. I’ve been sucking on the thing for about a half hour now, and I just don’t know if I am doing it right or not. I’m getting high, sure, but I’ve never used a vaporizer before. Always smoked joints or out of a pipe. So, for those of you who use vaporizers, do you have to smoke just as much weed as you do when you smoke in a joint, or do you get more bang for your buck in the vaporizer? And importantly, when do you know the bowl is done? Just from the taste?
Give me some tips.
And what do you think about dry vaporizers?

Well I'm also pretty curious. Been thinking about dry herb vapes lately.
Are you feeling like it's just not as effective as smoking?

Yeah, but maybe i’m doing something wrong, like not packing it tight enough, or keeping the heat too high or low, or not drawing long enough. I’m a total newbie.

I'm a multi decade smoker turned vape enthusiast. How you pack it makes a difference in how it hits. Looser will give a way better draw if you want a fat hit more akin to a toke. Fine scissor chop the weed too. Once you dial in your device it should be way better than smoking. Flavors of different strains are so pronounced, easy on your lungs and very efficient THC delivery. The AVB (already vaped bud) is decent decarbed material for edibles. Still fairly strong from the small amount of THC that didn't vaporize. Happy vaping

Thanks, bobbysue. I’m going to play around with it. About to load up a looser bowl. And I will hold on to the cooked stuff for the next time I make some gummies.

bobbysue, do you grind your weed or just use scissors to trim? Does it matter?

Scissors for sure. Most hand grinders leave the weed pretty chunky for a vape. You want it fairly fine but not ultra fine to the point where it can pass through screens and holes. A bit finer than you'd chop for joint. Also, I'm sure it's not recommended by manufacturer but you can use a bit of grinder kif/sift/hash in dry herb vapes. Just mix a little with weed. Shatter or oil probably not good idea though, seems like it could drip down and clog something.

U need a grinder to get the most effect out of herb vaporizers. It should taste really good at first, like freah herb then it slowly starts tasting like burnt popcorn. When it tastes like really burnt popcorn, thats when u trash the bowl. We in the weed biz call that spent vaporized weed Duff. Theres still THC in the bud but its not really efficient to extract using an herb Vaporizer.
Vapes are pretty cool. The high is a lot "brighter" than smoked.

The PAX is great for taste, but a pain in the ass to hit. A pain to clean too. You have to pack a good amount in, pack it tight & hit it slow but hard. Still rarely get good hits. The bud matters too; some vape better than others in it. I stopped using it. re: ABV, you don’t even need to cook with it. The vaping process decarbs it. You can just weight it & eat it as is & get floored. I’d rather use tincture or capsules though, to get a known dose, as the ABV is inconsistent.

for the pax i like to put like 3-5 pieces of nug in there and then when the hits die down, crush the little nugs up and swirl em around

I’ve been curious about this too. I had a very primitive vape 20 years ago, it didn’t work so great. It slowly produced vapor over at least 10 minutes and I didn’t have patience to sit around and hit the thing 30 times over 10 minutes to get a buzz. I’ve always been one to take one big bong hit and put everything away until next time. With a modern dry weed vape, do you have to sit around hitting the thing multiple times or is it a one and done kind of thing like a bong?

Vapes are finicky cause they use hot air and theres lotsa variables between the heat and lifting thc off the plant matter. Mass of weed and chamber, chamber material, flow, vapor pressure.
Its very similar to starting a fire which can take a lot of experience before it becomes innate. You can get big tasty hits if you mind the variables, or it can be hit or miss.
If you dont have good flow, you will not get hits.
The heating element may be up to temp but the chember isnt yet, and it takes another few minutes to heat up a glass chamber, which can be exhausting on your lungs.
One of the most important factors is when youre halfway through a bowl, it takes more energy to vaporize the remaining resin, so slowly up the temp. I like starting around 380f and going no higher than 450.
Its also hard to pack the chamber when its hot. Have a grinder so you can just pour it in.
If you wanna get high fast just pack a lot of small bowls at a high temp.

I highly recommend digital vapes with a heat temp sensor. Those are the best, cause u can really dial in the perfect temp. They are a little spendy thou.

Nice vape pen batteries, especially box mods, often have really nice temperature controls. Though how well they work depends on the attachment.
But yeah that's the way to go. Really helpful being able to dial in the heat, and fine tune it for different uses.
Been meaning to clean by old Yocan dry herb vape, not the fanciest but it's worked the longest out of any vapes I've tried. Bought a 5 pack of coils so I'd have extra, they tend to last a few months of steady use. But it's nice being able to replace the coil rather then need an entirely new vape. Pretty sure they don't even make the same model any more though, so probably won't be able to find new coils at a good price when I run out finally.

Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

You noticed a different weed depending upon various temperatures that you vape?
Why do you think the high is brighter?
I'm a noobie with weed but vapes made weed 100% better for me. I used to get high and not be able to think about anything but how bad my throat hurt lol.

Not sure what your question is. By "brighter" i mean more of a clearer, cleaner high from vaping compared to bong ripz. Vaping is better for being functional.
Dry herb vapes are very nice. Best way to taste a strain and to get that clean, bright experience as well.

I'm looking at getting a Mighty. Although by the time I get around to it there will probably be something much better.
Is there any technical merit to vaping through a bong? Or just the aesthetics?

It cools the vapor down. And u can take larger hits as it concentrates in the bong chamber
Thats basically the only two advantages.
