I innoculated 10 jars with only 1 syringe my 1st time. 29 days later I was picking. How fast does it have to be???

I think 4 holes is enough. if you use 2cc (1/2 per hole) per jar, colonization will be very fast.

a tip: point the needle diagonally till you touch the glass and let out the solution. it will speed up things very fast.

For first time growers its wise to use more spores to speed things up

A because they are impatient and B there is less chance of contamination if mycelium growth is rapid and abundant becasue the mycelium will fight off contams on its own.

More spores would certainly speed up colonization. The faster they colonize the less time contams have to gain a foothold. If you feel you can afford it, put in as much as you can without water-logging the substrate. 1cc per jar is probably the bare minimum for satisfactory results. 2cc per 1/2 pint is pretty good. Once you start taking your own sporeprints, you'll be set.

Thanks guys, how about more holes in the lid? I was going to do 4 as per PF tek, but am now thinking of experimenting with three of the jars by adding six holes . . . hmmmm. I guess contam., is the only thing to worry about whn doind that.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not in THAT much of a rush. I mean, it takes me 3-4 months to grow my poppies hehehe. So, I'll innoculate into 4 holes, stick 'em in the drawer and chill out for 3 weeks or so.
Sounds like you had a quick turn around. 29 days to harvest is awesome!
