Help! Possible P. Cyanescens?
    #26485441 - 02/14/20 01:06 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hello! This is my first time posting on Shroomery so let me know if i'm doing anything wrong or discourteous:)

I found these growing in a crowded clump out of wood chips in a wooded area very close to the neighbourhood in southern UK.

Blue stain around edge of spore print? What would this be?

They also have a separable gelatinous pellicle, and are very sticky when moist.

I don’t know what they are but I can tell you some key indicators that they’re not cyans. Very cunning lookalike though.

Cyans are not viscid, so they won’t be sticky of slimy on cap or stem.
They fairly reliably bruise blue around the cap margin.
The stems will be more fibrous and dense.
Gills will be darker.

I’m curious what you mean by blue stain around edge of spore print. What color are the spores?
The best way to explain the typical psilocybe spore print, in my opinion, is like the color of lavender paint with a bunch of ash mixed in.

Welcome to the shroomery.

Hi! Thanks for the response, it's very helpful.
As for the spore print, it appears to be brown with a hint of purple but hard to tell so doing a third now. Here's a picture of the blue staining I was talking about:

looks like Galerina marginata,  cut off the stem as close to the gills as possible and then place them gills down on a piece of white paper or Aluminum foil,  if you think that they have pale color spores then use black paper, let them sit for several hours (2hrs-36hrs) then post a picture. please.

I'm doing a spore print right now, i have done a couple of short ones, and can only see a sort of dark brown colour with maybe a hint of purple. I was thinking it could be Gallerina marginata but none of the mushrooms i picked had a visible annulus. Can gallerina species often not have a visible annulus? I'd also like to add that these mushrooms were found in a large single cluster, i'm not sure if this is useful info but i thought i'd add it regardless.

It’s not uncommon at all for Galerina to appear to not have a veil. Often times the veil is evanescent and the only evidence you’ll have is a band around the stipe with a slight variation in color.

This one is an example that is actually more well defined than most.

Oh excellent, thanks for letting me know. Any idea what the blue staining could be? I'm extremely curious as i cant find any other examples of this online.
