I've only ever used oats. Haven't found a good reason to switch yet.

Until a reason occurs, keep them going. I really wish i had your "luck" with oats. I have only inconsistent experiences with it. For a year i was singing the virtues of them and now im cryin the blues lol

Hoe do you guys keep your oats looking so nice after PC?
Here's a jar before PC

And here's the same jar after PC:

I prepped them by boiling enough water to double the height of the oats, removed the pot from the stove, soaked the oats for 45 minutes, rinsed the oats in cold water, let them dry for 23 hours (they were all dry on the outside) and PC'd for 1.5 hours at 18psi.
My last batch of jars came out looking just like this but I only dried them for about 8 hours instead of 24. Those jars are about 5% colonized so I know its not hurting anything to look like this but I'm just curious on how you are all keeping yours looking so good after a PC cycle.

Thats hella long for grain prep. I can have 50 lb of rye boiled, drained and bagged in about 2hrs or less.

Oats are great imo. Just dont over hydrate and dry them good. Great for everything I grow, active and gourmet/med. Not to mention the low price, in my area anyways.

Good humble brag.
I mean, he's just stating the facts
Get a really big pot (60-100qt) + build a large strainer and you too can prep massive quantities of grain in no time flat

You just do a ten minute boil or do you not count soak time?

Giving people goals they can't pull off in their kitchen without specific gear so they wonder why they suck is kind of half assed. At least take the time to say "with a 100 qt pot and stove that accommodates the size, or a turkey fryer" otherwise its just a humble brag...

A propane burner and a 25 gal mash tun arent extraveganet. I'm here during my free time. And i offer up what i know. I have no obligations to this site or anyone on it. You can pay attention to my ramblings or not. Doesnt effect my yields either way, homie...

Boil for about 6 min. My mash tun takes a lil bit to drain so that time while draining is accounted for.
