Can these agar plates be saved?
    #26483153 - 02/13/20 06:00 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I was trying to clone a fruit and my agar plates look horrible. I am a noob at this still but my guess would be bacterial contamination that was able to cross the plate like this due to condensation that dripped down and covered the agar.

Should I try to transfer already some mycelium from that first and second plate that have at least a bit of distance between the mycelium and the contam or have a part of the mycelium growing in uncontaminated agar? Are the other two plates doomed? Should I just wait and let it all colonize more?

PS: sorry for the quality of the pics

If ya got the resources, plenty of plates and agar.. why not... I’m maybe a few months into agar, but what a learning experience. I’ve cleaned up a few nasty plates. And 500 plates is definitely the best buy, and then you have shit loads of plates to fuck around with....

I don’t know the answer to your question. That condensation drives me crazy. I don’t know what to do about it. I store them upside down and that seems to help.

Still, some of the plates have puddles in them! In the last agar batch I did i poured 15 plates and 3 of them ended up really wet despite being stored upside down.

The closer I pour at 116 degrees, keeping plates stacked as long as possible, right side up, usually overnight in the SAB has worked wonders with the condensation....

I just made a similar post, but I'm using spores and my plates don't even have mycelium yet. I hope you are right about it being due to condensation, that's an easy enough thing to troubleshoot.

I think the gooey looking liquid is a contam, not necessarily condensation.... but there is a bit of myc growing, it’s just being overwhelmed.
