Missing mushrooms

Hi everyone, same old story, long time lurker, first time poster. So I started hunting last year and found a spot where there were lots of actives here in Queensland. We have had a ridiculously dry year, pretty much no rain for 9 months. The last month has rained quite a bit, but I have been back to the same spot and no luck at all really. My question is, is this due to the drought/not enough rain yet, or is it common for a spot to just not produce every year? I know the other scenario is that someone beat me to it, but it doesn’t look like anybody has been there. Thanks for any help or opinions

Can't speak specifically for your area, as I'm literally on the other side of the planet. But, generally speaking, conditions may vary both from place to place and from season to season, so there's really only one thing to do - keep checking.
I'll advice you to also try other fields, as you say not every field will produce consistently - one year it might give massive hauls then little or nothing the next. All this depends on multiple factors. Draught can be one of them.
But be patient, keep looking. One good sign that conditions are good is the occurrence of other kinds of mushrooms - this goes both for gauging seasonal conditions as it does for local conditions - as microclimates vary even from field to field. It is often hard to tell why one little area is abundant while two miles down the road everything is as dry as sand paper.
You should of course also keep checking this forum, the Aussie members are stepping up their activity, northern NSW seems to be booming just now, so maybe it is yet a few weeks before QLD comes along.
Persistence is the key!
Welcome to the Shroomery.

There's enough rain, how far north are you? Some fields can drop off and stop producing, had it happen multiple times. Just keep hunting and you'll find then/they'll find you

Yeah I know the south east is smashing them out, I’m further north. Might have to take a day trip down to the sunny coast.
