I’ve seen people with fully functional hoods using in line fans. You just have to match it with your filter.

I have an in-line fan and a filter that I spent some time and research making sure it would work before I bought it. As soon as I get my wood for the build and it’s done I’ll let you know if it works or not. But I have it on good advice that it will.

Nice tek! But how sweet to have the fan in the plenum if it works?

from what I remember inline fans are not as good for Laminar flow Hoods. That's because inline fans push a lot of air (high cfm or m³/h) but squirrel cage fans are good forcing air harder through small spaces like those pre filters and HEPA filters Maybe they can work, but i would double check a lot first. I think something with how they blow air vs how squirrel cage blowers move it. Squirel cage blowers such as the daytona are a known quantity that works well. And If you think shipping is an issue.. you can find free shipping.. hehe.. or maybe a local shop that has them on hand.

I read Everything on here about that.  I think the idea that inline fans cause bad airflow is old tek. That's not an old tek it's just that squirrel cage fans are way more optimal for the job... I think the purpose if to build positive air pressure behind the hepa, and the hepa then smoothes it out as it passes through the tiny pores.  I can't imagine a squirrel cage blower being blown into the bottom of the box and bouncing around inside the plenum is any less chaotic.

Here is a diagram of an inline fan and a squirrel cage fan rated at 500-something m³/h
just to ilustrate
