Dehydrator deal
    #26481695 - 02/12/20 10:10 AM (4 years, 4 days ago)

Although I'm still in the WBS stage (only a few days away from moving up to spawning though) I decided to keep my eye out for a food dehydrator, hoping that I'll need one before long.  I stopped in a Goodwill and there she sat, just waiting.  Was ten dollars, marked down to five.

It's the Snackmaster Jr. so no heat control but I'm sure I'll be able to crack or remove the lid if it seems to run a little warmer than I want.  Anyway, a good score.
If anyone uses this brand, especially if you run it with the lid off or do anything special, disconnect the heating element, etc, I'm all ears.

Just yesterday, mushboy told someone they could find a dehydrator at Goodwill for 5 bucks. Then today someone bought a dehydrator at Goodwill for 5 bucks. I eagerly await the next premonition.

Nice score.  I always suggest checking 2nd hand stores cause they seem to always have one.

Don't alter it. The cubes can handle the heat..well over 200F without harm or loss of potency.  In fact, I believe by drying them fast, you can freeze them and prevent that quick loss of psilocyn which will leave them more potent than without using a dehydrator.

Awesome, thanks.  I just tested it...running empty for about fifteen minutes it didn't get over 150.  For now it's sitting up on top of the cabinets in my (very small) kitchen and we'll see how long it takes the wife to notice and say, "What the hell is *that*?"

Dehydrators and vacuum baggers are easy to pass by wives. They have multiple uses, unlike 200 Mason jars and 500 count boxes of Petris.

And then there are the middle-of-the-road ones.  "Babe, with this PC you can make your homemade vegetable soup and we can CAN that stuff and have it whenever we want!"  She gave me a disapproving look but I could see she's open to that.  (On the other hand, though, I really doubt I'm allowing anything unrelated to this hobby near that thing.  After every use I clean it and box it back up and tuck it away.)

My PC rarely leaves the stovetop now. She was forced to come around.

Nothing survives in the pressure cooker when you use it so feel free to do other things with it.  I've always gardened and canned, ended up getting a pressure cooker as a gift and then started using it for "hobbies".  You clean it like you do anything else but don't pass up the goodness of using it to cook just because you're paranoid it'll be dirty.

One of the best things I ever made in the pressure cooker was corned beef and cabbage for St. Patty's day.  Literally everything is better when done that way

And dried fruit is awesome with a dehydrator too

I cook a rack of ribs in mine almost every week. 30min and ribs are fall of the bone and ready to put on the grill for a bit to  sear and add smoke flavor.

You make a good point.  Since I do 95% of the cooking around here I might have to consider that.  Also if would be good for it to make an appearance doing "normal" stuff.
