this shit keeps happening

:// took like two hours to take em all off
I ain’t mad, just a little disappointed :p
I don’t think it’s moisture as the top doesn’t really seem dry but I could be wrong about that the top was knotting up but no too many fruits, 10-15 medium to small, the ones that grew I cut off before I took the picture, that’s my bad I also don’t think it’s lack of a liner because bod had almost 0 side pins for his easy af tek
maybe my lightings off? I’ve been up late lately with my led’s, I recently read they prefer complete darkness so maybe that’s throwing them off, but why would it cause side pins?
thx

It's the genetics.
Some strains consistently top fruit really well. Some like the sides or bottom.
Some do well with a liner, some it doesn't matter.

That info is wrong. they like light in all stages of development. You want 12 on 12 off 5000k to 6500k light. most likely your surface conditions are not on point. they fruit where the conditions are the most favorable.

Bod is a seasoned grower and reads the substrate a lot better than beginning growers. I've been were you are and suggest you try a liner. It's an easy solution to a lot of side pinning issues and I'm sure after more growing you'll learn to read the substrate as well.
Good luck!

what light are you using? mine did that when i turned the lights off to make the myc cover more area. maybe not enough light......just maybe

That's because it's the bottom. It is too wet, but apparently his babies love that shit.
OP, great pictures of the bottom, but your substrate top pic sucks. Take another picture of that with better lighting and we can figure out how good your surface conditions are.

Ha! I finally get now. Those are pictures of the bottom. I was wondering why they were all growing sideways. That is funny shit! I suppose the substrate was too wet when you started. Maybe flip it upside down and put it back in the tub that way since the bottom conditions are apparently perfect. That way the bottom surface will be the new top surface and it might just take off like a mofo.

I think some cultures just do that. I haven’t had bottom or side pins for a while now but this clone I have running for the first time is pinning decently but not as much as I expected, then I checked the bottom cuz the first two grows that I took the clone from had crazy dense clusters all over. Sure enough there’s a couple two or three square inch cluster on the bottom even with the liner stuck super tight.

woke up to a awesome discussion,
I really hope it’s the genetics, that would mean I’m not the variable, save me in the future. I have a store bought syringe, maybe I’ll go back to that & see if it causes bigger fruit.
Now that I think about it I saved these genetics so it’s possible they came from a less than preferable fruit, maybe a old petri dish or something but I’m not positive.
Also, by complete darkness, my mistake, I was actually referring to 12/12, I just mean during the 12 without light, there might have been some led leakage at night, making it like 12/8/4; 4 hrs of actual pitch black surroundings, 8 hrs of dim led lights at night while i’m up on shroomery lol, and 12 of the actual grow light on.
Perhaps I’m interrupting the dark cycle by staying up at night with leds is what I meant to say.
As for pictures of the top, completely agree! But my phone was conkin’ out & wouldn’t let me use the flash anymore, here are some pictures from this morning, note* one side is rather dark from flipping the tub and having the excess water touch. Looks a little dry around the edges but I think that occurred more recently, the middle still seems okay to me. Plz mid the holes

I doubt there's a genetic trait that makes fruits appear on bottom wedged by plastic. use a liner till you know what to look for in terms of surface conditions

ty!
and yea thats probably smart, I went from liners, a few contams, then I heard simplicity is best so I tried no liners, ever since no liners I’ve had some crazy side pins; the other tubs I have right now are lined up, I also think liners make the tubs slightly easier to clean for the next batch
Can’t seem to get all the ingredients right for the perfect pinset, whenever I use oats and no liners I immediately start noticing knotting all around the sides and bottom & it drives me mad lol
I agree tho I gotta tidy up my procedure, I guess, before I start using more advanced techniques 👍🏼
can’t wait to have a better understanding of exactly what is occurring
(also I am using a 4’ hyper tough shop light for those who asked, pretty sure it’s around 6500)

Seems if the bottom and sides are booming maybe less air or more humidity, something...

ikr! it’s wild how backwards it is something must be off
but at least no green, I’m at a point where that, to me, is a sort of victory on its own, after my recent bout with bacteria
I’m keeping the lid flipped so maybe ur right my sub wasn’t wet enough or something
(also in response to odo, I did that last time this sort of thing happened, & the issue was that I kept seeing better fruits on the bottom despite flipping it, so it felt like I was doing it injustice no matter what haha, not fun when a substrate you just flipped is now finally pinning on top which is now the bottom 🤦🏻♂️)

It looks pretty dry on the surface to me, but it looks like you have a nice pinset coming in. With that pinset, you must be doing something right... If it was my sub, I'd give it a good spray. That sub will soak it up nicely without pooling. I'm a newb and have a tendency to over spray, but I don't get many side pins like that even without a liner... When I do over spray, I just increase FAE and it recovers quickly.

noted;
starting a spray schedule, 3-5 times per day until I can tell that dryness is no longer visible,
my last tub I thought I might’ve over sprayed and ended up with small fruits, but that was probably wrong info, so i’m a little hesitant but we gotta get them fattened up
I will admit it was a bit dry but I thought that was better than the other way around
also I realized, rather than using a 1.4 lb brick I was cutting a 10 lb block into 8 pieces so perhaps not enough substrate is the reason for the lack of moisture

they came up better the second time around! thx for asking
just finished drying in fact, half o dried
wetting I think definitely played a part, along with it being the second flush
pardon my short term memory,

also shroomery logged me out for the first time in like.. ever. Anyone know what’s up with that? I’m always paranoid
