Is it possible to dunk too long?
    #2648111 - 05/06/04 09:57 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Just as the subject suggests. If one were to dunk tek (cake or casing), is it possible to dunk too long and 'drown' the mycelia?

ya personally i would never and have never gone over 24.A little longer and you wont hurt anything, but 2 days is too long.It is like a sponge,it can only hold so much water, then it gets water logged and is at risk for contams.

I have forgotten about dunking cakes in the fridge for a couple of days and change and didn't have any problems fruiting nor with contams.

maybe not but the chances are raised.Doing it by accident is one thing but why do it on purpose. My cat has gotten in my fruiting chamber and knocked over my cakes. They didnt contam, but i wouldnt put my cat in there on purpose.

Fair enough. But unless you are dunking in toilet H2O, it wouldn't be a big deal. Can only get a finite amount of water into a substrate. Once you are at saturation, fruit. But who really knows how long that is? - or like me and forget :bong:

An hour here or there won't hurt anything.

ILMAO ButterNut! Mine haven't gotten in there yet but they sure do like to try.

I usualy go about 16-22 hrs. I put them in before bed and take em out after work the next day. Works for me.

ha ha ha.

I dunk for 20 hours twice, but at the end of the flush it was kind of dry, so i will try to dunk it more next time.

i think you should dunk it enough time to get enough moisture for the next flush.
