Growing azurescenes (so close) 1

This is my 2 spawn bags of azuresene wbs spawn, hard wood chips, hard wood pellets, gypsum, they been colonizing for months in my garage, I put them into fruiting conditions 2 months ago. The temp is 5-10°C Humidity is 95+ Lighting 12/12
Any tips? I feel like giving more FAE, and casing with hard wood. Keep it inside.. anyone have any positive advice besides plant it outside?

Maybe try a classic 50/50+ casing as the azure won't colonize it like it would with wood.
Also, if there's no soil it's not likely to fruit. I think that there may be a relationship between the soil microbes and the mycelium.
Perhaps spawn a small 2 or 3 inch layer of your spawn mix on top of soil in a planter, then case.
This is what I would try.

I would soak the entire thing in water, gypsum for 24 hours
Then grab a bag of indoor potting soil and some large clay planters, bury them and hope you can sustain those temps for at least 90 days
Some guy moricz has gotten away with just bucketed coir for cyans so maybe u can try that way too for one of your bags
GLuck man that’s some tough mushies to grow indoors

Soil layers seem to help with azurescens. I have a planter type grow that didn't fruit this season (planted late) but I have faith in the system.

Yeah, I remember WayLit used to mix nutritious soil in his subs. Worked real good
For Azzies it’s about them temps man, you gotta have that Astoria shit 30s/40s day/night straight to get them
Cross upper 40s then Cyans territory, 50s allenii and ovoids
I think that’s why azzies be so rare
Pulling 30s/40s indoors straight for a few months is def a challenge

I'm surprised we dont see more fridge grows.. I'd get a mini fridge to keep them going for the summer. I can keep them low temp like this till may and it's already been most of the past few months. They been fruiting for 2 months.
Thanks so much for the input guys. I'll case with cactus + verm next week. They look like they want to. Everything is going well. I might get some fruits:) I'll put them close to the garage door where its cooler. Thanks guys

It’s because fridges are generally around low 30s to keep food fresh and stop organisms from growing (including mycelium)
We need that circadian rhythm type shit where it’s not a 30F flat the entire time
Since these types need unsterile soil, that would be tough all trapped inside a fridge without turning green
Fresh air, humidity, the right kelvin for light, fridge grows are a lot trickier than one would assume
Better the more natural way, spawn to some soil in a pot or outside and let nature do her thing

That's fair. But I can easily humidify a fridge with a fresh air setup. Tape over the bottom so it thinks the door is closed to keep it running, then a funnel/fan/hose to send in air, and humidity is easy. Tiny humidifier. Boom.
With a will these a way.. and I'm going to make these bags fruit until I fail miserably lol

Casing for sure. They fruit off of burlap pretty well.

I've seen my roommates try all kinds of shit with cold woodlovers including what you describe
The problem you'll run into is the fridge compressor
same thing with wine coolers and beverage coolers
The compressors can't handle abuse
They usually burn out after some time, just don't get a fancy fridge if ur gonna try lol

Nice, that's good to know. Yeah I'll keep it as closed as possible for minimal heat loss, the air hose will be as small as possible. I was also considering cutting a hole to make this even more pro.
Yeah brother, it will be a az/wood lover dedicated fridge.. I think I can get one for less than 150 canadian.

Sounds like you need one of those big meat freezers that open upwards.

Chest freezer with a temp controller would work well for temp but it would need a clear glass lid to allow light in.

A friend of mine scored a giant commercial coke fridge one time on Craigslist, pretty much a big ass vertical chest freezer with a glass door
It was cool, nice and spacious, but no temp controls
We put it in the garage and realized later that it became temp dependent, meaning the ambient temperature outside affected the compressor
Nights made it too cold and hot summer days made a little too warm
This effect happens with wine coolers too if anyone has ever owned one
Even in insulated environments, they generally become affected by the outside temp swings after some time
Anyway, Azures wouldn’t fruit both with sterile and unsterile casing
Worst part was big freezers are loud as shit, the monthly electrical bill was off the roof like 200 bucks a month
Something to keep in mind if you’re gonna play around with a commercial level fridge, the cost and maintenance

I've never gotten them to fruit indoors. Always colonize great, but dont fruit until I eventually put them outside

Getting those temps right is a bitch indoors... but if you live somewhere they occur naturally you can have a great outdoor patch/pot

I got 2-3 months left of winter... I'll put the bags on my deck once my garage warms up if I dont build a fridge. My fingers are crossed and I have all the patients in the world.

Depending on where you live winter might work better
