I'm still waiting for my PC to get cool to the touch to take them out. I think I will be doing it tomorrow night because I don't know what/how much condensation issue I'm going to have. I'll take your advice and inoculate 3. When doing so, is flame sterilization required in between each agar jar? And generally speaking how long should it take to see growth? And when the growth occurs, how long do I let the growth go on for before I begin to think about transferring?

Also, I don't know what I'm to be looking for in terms of picking out the best out of the three.

So the general answer for new growers is yes flame between every jar but if you use common sense make sure the needle doesn't contact anything at all and move carefully you can get away with a single flaming for all 3. These are germ plares so you will doing transfers anyways now would be about the only time it is acceptable to cut a corner.
As far as growth id estimate it to take anywhere from a week to a month. Too many variables to to say for sure.
For the the other question I would use the search function to find a good agar guide there is alot of info on the subject already.
Once you see growth you can post pics here and we can try to help you decide where and when to transfer but its a little early to say lmao.

I havent done this but I'd like to try getting one of those totes with the locking lid and gasket and using it like a desiccant chamber to clear up no pour condensation.

I've tried this, didn't work for me.
They seem to clear up in a few days no matter what I do. Which is perfectly fine because I really don't need to see the surface for a few days after innoculating the dish anyway.

For me the condensation seems to stick around for a pretty good amount of time or pool on the surface in which case I'll just pour it away.
You said you no pour glass petris though right? Ive never worked with glass ones but I do pour petris and condensation seems to be a little easier to deal with in them with the gaps between the two halves so maybe thats the major difference. Do you also do no pours in other vessels?

Yeah I would definitely post and ask you guys to verify. I don’t want to just blindly follow any tek based on what I think, I could be wrong at one point, and I trust that you guys know better than me since this is very first time I have even made agar, yet alone transfers and etc.

Yep, only glass petris. True, there are gaps from imperfect seals. Also I use baggies instead of wrapping. If they are particularly moist, I may prop up one side of the dish by leaning it on another dish.

Alright thanks. Some of that I’ve already read over a couple of times. It’s kind of different though when you try to spot things yourself and do it. But thanks. This is how my agar jars turned out. Some condensation, and I also noticed in some of the jars that the agar became slanted...

Slanted is fine and you dont have to worry about the excess moisture sloshing around on a slanted no pour it all stays to the low side.
That anount of condensation is acceptable I wouldn't even worry about or try to correct it should clear up on its own you did good.
Sonetimes we cant eliminate the condensation all together bit we can definitely take steps to reduce it.

So lighting has no effect on the myc growth at this stage?  Darkness in a cabinet, natural daylight, 12 hr light cycle, all the same difference?

Light has been found to be beneficial at all stages of growth but im sure if you store petris in the dark it won't harm anything at all Ive kept mine in a small igloo cooler to protect from temp swings in my old ass house and my shit still grows fine lol. Its not something I would dwell on at all.

Lol man I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble, I know how frustrating it is.

You got it this time, I don’t think there’s any problems you haven’t encountered now so should be clear sailing from here out.

I rarely get flat agar in my plates, it’s kind of cool though you’ll see how thickness effects the growth. I always see it go rhizo on the thin side.

How’s that millet jar?
And I missed something what got thrown out?

I threw out my other jars of agar that I had poured too thick the first time. It was at a level I wouldn't be able to see any growth from the glass, but I should of just kept them. I thought they weren’t going to do me any good.

I came home and one of my agar plates has a big drop of condensation on it, must've came from the lid. Should I throw that one out? It was just sitting right in the middle of the agar. I turned it around and it ran down to the side of the agar sitting there on the edge now like a little puddle. Should I get rid of it or will it still work?

I don't know what to make of my millet jars, it seems like it's spreading, but it's just not the growth I'm used to seeing like my PF jars. You mentioned something in my other thread about the weird way millet colonizes. Is this what you mean? What do you make of these jars? I feel like it is not encompassing every grain, I took pictures from all around and on top so you can see. Is this what it is supposed to be like and will still work? It seems like the growth and mycelium is more clumpy growing, but what do I know, this is my first time with grains. I’m used to seeing strong mycelial growth and everything would be white. What do you make of these millet jars?

No dont throw away the one with the droplet of moisture on it its fine. Condensation doesnt cause contamination. I will repeat does not cause contamination. Lol

Also those millet jars dont look too bad at all. I mean im not the best at identifying a healthy grain jar but I dont see anything offensive in them maybe a couple spots with some thick white growth but they look decent to me.

Yeah man millet is weird because a lot of times it doesn’t really look colonized like other seeds do, I think those jars will do really well, look close to done.

Everything inside the agar jars should be sterile so it doesn’t matter if the condensation drips, it’s actually good it’s happening now before you use it so you can just dump it out when you go to make a transfer or whatever.

I think the millet looks like another day or two maybe and it’s ready. The jars really speed up at the end.

Okay cool, well I hope these work out too! I really thought these had failed. Yeah it's weird because it doesn't seem like everything is completely covered and white. I'm thinking something funky is going on because looking at rye berry or WBS everything is completely saturated in bright white. It still seems looks like it is far from being like that. Even when I look at the bottoms, it looks the same and they don't seem fully colonized. So how will I know when they're 100% complete? If this is how it tends to colonize then how would you know when it's done and what would you go by to determine that?

Also going to be knocking up my agar!

It’s been several days since I inoculated my agar. Nothing has happened yet on the agar. I’m just keeping it in my room on the shelf, room temperature is between 70 and 75. Is that okay for agar growth? Or should I be incubating at a much higher temperature to achieve growth?
