Making Edibles, What's Better? Flower or Extracts?
    #26478426 - 02/10/20 11:38 AM (4 years, 6 days ago)

Helllloooo all you lovelies, I have been experimenting with making edibles for the past couple months. I usually use 7 grams of shatter anywhere from 68% to 80% THC mixed with 1 cup of coconut oil because it's just super easy and straight forward. The cheapest I can get wax for currently is $12.50 a gram.

I can get an ounce of Flower of 21-29% THC for $90. I really want to cut back on my smoking so I want to bake and try to have edibles on hand as much as possible. I'm about to bust out my calculator myself But I'm wondering which product would be the best to choose financially.

I have not made edibles with actual flower in a while But I hear they taste much more like cannabis rather than using extracts. Can anyone verify that? also I always appreciate baking tips.

I prefer using wax. It just seems to be a little more simple, but not by much.

Using flower definitely puts more of a cannabis flavor into the final product. You can kind of control this by the amount of time you cook your oil/butter or whatever with the flower. I prefer to do about 10-12 hours in a crock pot just to make sure I infuse every bit I can, but at the same time you bring a lot of the flavors over as well.

a ounce is about 28 grams. So at 10% THC thats 2.8 grams, 15% is 3.9, 20% is 5.6, 26% is 7.3 grams oil from an ounce
So if your paying 90 for and ounce or 90 for 7gs extract its the same thing.
Obviously putting more chlorophyl into the food will make it taste more like chlorophyl.
If the extract is solventless thats the way i would go.

Hey bud! So about $84 lands you 5.4gm of THC at best, from your shatter, and about 8gm from the bud at best, (maths might be out, I'm a bit hammered) although not all the good stuff will dissolve in your cooking oil unfortunately, which is pretty understandable, given you're going a bit less 'white lab coat' and more 'chef's apron' with this method! I like your method but never got a chance to try it the one time I had shatter, as it got vaped away!

I usually use 1-1.8oz buds, in a crock pot with about 400gm of coconut oil, and it makes a nice product that I can happily eat as it is, but I have made some nice tasting lolipops, gummi sweets and chocolates with it too. It does taste like cannabis, but I don't mind the flavour!

Man. I use flower but the extract would just fine. Maybe. Depends on what you are trying to make.

I load up my crock pot with butter/coconut oil and add as much material as possible. I keep it on low heat for about 4-6 hours.  I use water so I can separate the chunks out after I put the final product in the freezer the butter/coconut oil freeze solid leaving liquid and trash behind. The less green you can get it the better.

Let's keep this simple. Buy an ounce. Make 28 one gram firecrackers, enjoy. The most bang for the buck, nothing is wasted.

Either is fine really. Just got to change the dose if you have concentrate. As far as the price goes well just say 20% to 30% thc for the weed and 70-80% for the hash to make things easy. At 20% an ounce of weed would have 5.6 grams of thc. At 30% it would have 8.4 grams of thc. 12.50 for a gram means you could get 7 grams of hash for just under 90$. 87.50$. At 70% a gram of hash has .7 grams of thc. So 7 grams of hash would have 4.9 grams of thc. At 80% you got .8 a gram so 6.4 grams of thc. So the pot sounds better generally in your case but if you can get 80% dab and only the 21% buds the hash would be better.

I've never tried firecrackers but I've heard they're pretty effective. I haven't smoked or anything in a few months but I've been wanting to when I get some extra money. I'll have to try it.

It's just weed in peanut butter sandwich between 2 crackers. You just put it in the oven for a bit and munch away. I don't really know why I've never tried. Super simple.

Extracts forsure. If you can get distillate, that's your best bet. I just made a batch using 1000mg of 97% distillate (970 mg thc). Split that into 16 pieces and that's 60mg a brownie and no weed taste.

I think a little weed taste goes excellent with brownies and other baked goods.

I dont think weed taste is bad either but to an extent. To get 60mg of thc per brownie using flower, I think they would have to taste pretty grassy. But I have to have strong edibles because I have a pretty high tolerance. I dont feel much under 50mg and under 25 might as well be a microdose.. I should really cut back.

I grind a quarter to fine dust, put it in a half cup of cooking oil and cook it on my nuwave at 230 until it bubbles then cut back to 200 or so.  Uncovered.  It should be just barely simmering from heat, not bubbling after the initial 5 min or so. Cook it for 2 hours then just use a coffee filter to strain it into a measuring cup.  Make a pan of brownies with the cooked oil.  Works like an absolute charm every time and doesn’t taste like weed at all.  You can add a few drops of orange or mint essential oil to the batter for more flavor if you need to.

I use to have a huge tolerance so I get it. Yeah they'd probably be pretty strong on the weed taste at that level. I'd just make em less potent and eat 2 or 3 brownies lol. I fucking LOVE brownies.

If you're in a place where cannabis is legal, most of the producers are pretty consistent with their thc-content labeling on their distillates and extracts. In that case, it's easy math; [(weight of extract in mg) * (THC content in decimal)] / number of servings. But If you're buying extract off the streets it just depends on how honest your dealer is with their THC contents

Firecracker recipe on high times dot com.
Yeah man, decarb a gram of bud, powder it up, use graham crackers, smooth PB, small a mount of choc chips, and a pinch of sugar in the raw, fucking blammo! If I use lets say 25-28% thc flower, one square (2 pieces of a graham cracker) and one gram of bud, it seems to be around 60-80mg of and edible, maybe 100 sometimes depending on the strength of the wee. The thing is you waste NOTHING, so ALL the cannabinoids are utilized. 60mg is my sweet spot anyway, so I'm a light toker/edible guy. I never use concentrates either, I might buy a vape cart every now and then for travelling, but I just bong a hit or 2 when I smoke, maybe a gram or 2 on the weekends at the most. Sometimes I do not smoke at all during the week. Very light smoker here. I think you people have WAYYY too much info, just smoke the bud, or eat some, lol! Enjoy it how you like and do what works best for you all.
