Yeah, I have actually been lurking here for a while, but I have only very recently gotten to a point where I finally have the time and space to cultivate. I am loving every bit of it so far

Here is how 2 melmac jars look 10 days after shake. One is 99% colonized and I think it looks good. The other one, not so much.
The good one:

The not so good (notice the different looking growth on the less white looking grains. Especially the ones near the bottom in the first pic):

I was planning on spawning each jar to its own shoebox anyway, but would it still be worthwhile to spawn the not so good looking jar, or is it too far gone?

Ok the sketchy looking jar from the above post definitely was bad. The good jar took a few days to colonize the last 1% but looks 100% now. I will spawn to a shoebox in a day or two.
the albino cambodians have caught up and should finish colonizing in the next day or two also. Here is an example:

Here is an example of part of the second attempt for melmac. There are 5 jars all similar to this that got shook tonight:

And here is an update on the ps. cyan. Only two out of five are left (lost to mold). Here is how one of them looks, anyway. the other looks similar:

Okay, so I went ahead and spawned both of the melmac jars. Each to their own shoebox. The good looking jar went to the tub with the white lid(top), the suspect looking jar is in under the grey lid(bottom).

I am hoping to spawn the cambodian jars to a monotub in a couple days.

I spawned the 4 clean albino cambo quarts to a 66qt mono a la Pastywhyte’s Ez dialed monotubs.

Also, I just got a thermometer to keep track of temps in the room and found out that it was actually 85-90F in there! I knew it felt a little warmer in that room, but never would of guessed it was that high . I covered the vent in that room and now the temps are around 70-75F.
Here is how the good shoebox is doing, most of the grains in the other shoebox with the grey lid haven't recovered after spawning so I will probably toss it. I never had much faith in it to begin with, I just spawned it anyway in the name of science. Anyway, here is the better looking one currently:

Here is an example of how the 2nd wave of melmac jars are coming along (there are 5 total like this):

and here is how one of the ps. cyan jars is looking. The other looks similar:
I will be starting the fermentation process on some woodchips later today

Here is the shoebox 8 days after spawning (melmac):

And here is the mono 4 days after spawning (albino cambo):

Please let me know how everything looks. Learning correct substrate moisture and proper fruiting conditions seems to be the most difficult part of the hobby to learn.

Looks very dry.
Why ferment the woodchips?
This is cy on mixed hardwood that was not pasteurized or fermented...

Cy likes to eat and will out compete most"contaminates".

I was worried about it being too dry... So I should give both a heavy mist?
Also, regarding the fermented woodchips, I thought this thread was convincing. I have heard that cyans are extremely aggressive. Maybe I will skip the fermentation... it would've been a real pain to do in my current situation anyway. It just looked really beneficial.

Here is the albino cambo mono at 7 days

And the melmac shoebox at 10 days

And here is the two ps. cyan jars just before I shook them. The myc was really hard to break up. I ended up really starching up the inside of the jars, oh well.

MY FIRST PINS!!!!

It was definitely a pleasant surprise. I thought it wouldn't happen until after its fully colonized. Is there contams? Also, they are growing from within the substrate rather than on the surface as I often see in pictures... it's like I cased it, but it's only a top-layer/pseudocasing. Anyway, I can't complain. Looks much better than I expected for my first time.
Another thing... I somehow just noticed that there is a separate sub-forum for grow logs, which this kinda is. So if any mods wanna move it, go ahead.

Looking good, my CV casing at spawning very often does not colonize, similar to that.

The melmac shoebox contammed a day or two after the last pics. Got about 10g dry from it.
I let the 2nd albino cambo flush go a bit long before harvest, but they don't drop many spores (and they are transparent) so whatever... (got about 5 and a half dry ounces from the two flushes)

Ps. cyan jars were spawned to shoeboxes + woodchips 2 days ago

These are so cool. Do they bruise when you harvest? Best looking albino I have seen in a while. They look like an albino Malabar the way the veil stays put for so long.

You can pick em without bruising if you are really careful. The gills and cap edges will bruise with a slight touch, the rest is more resistant, but still bruises fairly easily.
