pruning shoebox outlier?
    #26479222 - 02/10/20 08:08 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Have a shoebox not completely colonized everywhere but there is one 2 inch long mushroom shaft poking up about to hit the lid. Should I pluck it so having the lid of doesn't dry out the rest of the sub and I can wait until the first flush. There aren't even pins anywhere else.

It is probably contaminated. Pick the fruit and pray... Contamination is a pinning trigger.

You got a pic?

It will be fine if you leave it, my fruits push he lid all the time. Kind of odd that one single mushroom grew and matured before a pin set tho... might be fruiting early due to contamination.

Look at this smug son of a bitch. he looks healthy except for the cap which is miniscule. I misted with H2o2 just to be safe, but not sure if I will pick it yet. If i do should I soak the whole thing in a light solution of peroxide. The fuzz looks like mycelium to me, but I'm a noob.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I removed it. Still no other pins. Moved it to a warmer spot in the house.

Eh that tub looks kinda toast. Leave the lid off to get it to dry hopefully and don’t mist or water and any heat probably won’t be good at this point because it’s probably contaminated. But I guess you could just wait and see if you see any black or green mold then def chuck it right away!

This is the same shoe box a few days later after I plucked it. There are a lot of huge side pins because this is the one I tried not using a double liner in. Other than that it looks like it'll be another 100g or 150g first flush. Not bad for a couple pints of popcorn and multispore LC. Not the prettiest. TThere are a lot of squished side shrooms to harvest, but I'm happy with it.

Fuck yeah, biggest first flush yet. Got a bunch of really squished ones but plenty of healthy clumps and single fruits.. Plucked them all before veil break and soaked the substrate in a mixture of water and peroxide for an hour. Left some pins up to half an inch tall to see if they'll mature after the soak or not. Should I be plucking those too so the substrate can focus on new shrooms? Will they survive a liberal soaking? We'll see.

Never going to not use a liner again though.

I've been misting my cakes and stuff with peroxide for weeks and never had a problem. I've read people regularly mist with H2O2 after each flush too.
