Delayed birthing jars * 1
    #26479182 - 02/10/20 07:35 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hi all,

I'm a first time mushroom grower following the pf tek method. I have recently completed the incubation period with fully colonized jars having sat for over a week while waiting to see development of pins.

Now, unfortunately as soon as I began to see pins I found out I would have to be out of town for 4 days. After some reading I determined it was best to leave my pinning brf cakes in their jars until I returned. I got home this evening and BAM some of those guys really grew!

I went ahead and birthed the jars but I decided to pick off the large mushrooms because I wasnt really sure if they were supposed to be submerged in the 'dunk' phase over night with the cakes.

My two questions here are was picking them off the right move and also are those mushrooms worth keeping (using). Note a couple grew so much that the top opened up and shows the gills part.

I've attached several pictures to help understand my story.

Thanks for helping a newb out 👍

Rinse the Vermiculite off and have a gREAT! evening. They are perfectly fine to ingest or dry.

Picking them was the right move and they are sill fine to eat.

Its interesting the gills in that second picture are tan. Looks like they didn't produce spores.

A couple did have those light gills but the big one had dark gills.
