I feel like I've seen a wide variety of causes for this type of contamination. Is it moisture levels being to high? Is it from humidity? The spore you inoculated with? The substrate not being sterilized?
Is there one specific cause of this or is it all just dependant on each person's grow?
Is there a common ground? Such as a primary cause of this nasty crappy heartless mold! I've seen it be completely stopped in its tracks with just a little bit of h202 but then also seen it come back stronger applying the same method......it seems to be completely random.
I'm by no means an expert and always hope to be learning something new everyday. In my life I've seemed to have learned more communicating with other people with the same interest than I have reading any sort book or documentation. So I'm asking you all....the coolest message board in the game...to help me understand this complete mindfucking I've endured due to the green mold. Where does it come from? What are the cause? Can it be destroyed?

Mold Spores is the short answer. Most of the time when people have Trich.... It is just some common mold like shit that grows on bread.
Main thing is proper sterilization of your Spawn and you should be fine.. Dirty Spawn=Dirt Tubs

Trich is ubiquitous in nature. Its everywhere. You could argue that life on earth wouldnt be possible without trichodermias.
Unfortunately it is parasitic to mushroom myc. It gets all tangled up and grows with the myc. That's why cutting out trich is like cutting out cancer(not always effective). Best way to avoid trich is having clean grain spawn and properly prepared bulk substrates.
It's also pronounced Tryke. Like tyke or bike. Not 'trich' like trick.
It's cool stuff honestly. Googling trich will give you tons of info.

Also even if you went the trying to cut it out route you could only cut out what you can see, theres tons of microscopic threads growing out. way more than you can even imagine to see with your eyes so it doesnt really help at all. Can do like most folks n trash em if you get it or if you have a yard can make you an area to pitch it too and might still get some fruits from it But think of Hydrogen peroxide/salt treatments/whatever someone thinks theyre doing to get rid of it as purely a very temporary visual symptom fix. It aint gettin rid of it at all haha plus h2o2 can damage your mushroom myc as well.
And like that smart feller mushboy said, its EVERYWHERE outside and inside and thats how most people get it. Improper sterile procedures which would include multispore syringe inoculation, improper SAB use etc. You can do your work in a dirty ass dusty ass house and as long as your doin the SAB right and following other common procedures your chances of getting it would be reduced significantly

Temperature.
Especially within, in the middle of a sub or jar. The warmer the more they flourish. But, I've seen woodlovers overtake the mean green in cold ass places.
So hot environments is where they like it, especially without fresh air.
Temperature is a big key.

Trich spores and mycelium fragments are mostly found clinging to dust particles which are easily stirred up and carried around as you move about. When they come in contact with a suitable substrate they form a mold colony. If it manages to grow into a nutritious substrate like the spawn either by the dust coming in contact with uncolonized grain during the inoculation or by a colony growing in the bulk substrate managing to spread to the grain or fragments of the grain, it grows like crazy and it's game over. The most notorious species are pathogenic to the mushroom mycelium so they'll grow right into, let the mushroom mycelium produce enzymes to digest the substrate and then steal the nutrients and sometime digest the mushroom mycelium to use as food. There's really no removing it at that point.

Each one of you legends deserve a box on me......trichless hopefully now that I have all this new juicy info
So then this may be a dumb question but Trich sounds to be more a "mold" than a "fungus" And this "tryche" (thanks mushboy) is found more outside than inside so anytime I take a smoke break or just step outside to enjoy the day any kind of airborne spore could potentially fall off of my clothes inside and spread it?
I guess that explains why sometimes the removed contamination solves the problem but that other times it comes back because some parts of the contam is microscopic. Thanks cootermonkey ....love the name btw
Thanks kizzle for the reply. So basically trich is just moochin off the myc to survive? Or is taking up nutrients that aren't byproducts of the myc itself?
Great link wilderness junkie! And ryzo appreciate the info my guy!
You guys all rock! Thanks for all you do and for being pioneers in this wonderful world of mycology

I have found be it plants or mushies they both do better if your room or tent is HEPA MERV 8+ filter equiped. For whole rooms I like to have positive pressure and exhaust the air to heat or outside depending on the season.

How do you vent outside? I have a Martha that has a filtered intake and then it vents via bathroom fan and ducting into my grow room. I’d like to vent it outside but I’m worried about gnats, mice or contams working it’s way back through the exhaust into the Martha. Especially gnats. Anything you do in particular to lower these possibilities?
