Why are some mushroom tops splitting?

This is currently after my first flush , I submerged the tub for 2-5 minutes after I harvested the fruits. Is there a reason why these are splitting at the top and also why are these so short and fat ?

Because it's dry as hell in there. Myc looks really bad too, matted and very stressed, bacterial and fighting something sinister.
The stumps from the 1st flush looks like a nice sized cluster, hope you cloned it!

Couple of follow up questions.
Should I have submerged longer?
Generally how soon should I continue misting after dunking and harvesting?
Should I continue to let this tub grow and harvest? (After misting heavily of course)

I mean you could harvest whats there or see if they'll mature but I dont see that tub making a comeback. Did you sprinkle more coir over it or did that bare spot just never colonize? Personally I'd chuck it after harvesting what's there and start a new grow if you haven't already.

That bare part never colonized or anything it was odd. Guess I will wait a few days, harvest then chuck it.

If your moisture content was good to begin with you really dont have to dunk at all. I've had awesome 1st and 2nd flushes without dunking, just a heavy mist after harvesting the 1st.
The fact that it didnt colonize means the sub is contaminated, definitely heavily bacterial. At least you got some fruits!

Ya they should be. Make a tea if you want to play it extra safe. If you have a dehydrator that heats at 160f they should be fine after completely dry if there were anything to worry about.
Ya usually when spots of subs don't colonize like the rest it's because it's contaminated
