Panaeolus Cyanescens? ID required - find from NE QLD
    #26477470 - 02/09/20 07:08 PM (4 years, 8 days ago)

Hi friends,

Ive been hunting for cubes for a while now in places resembling the habitat descriptions I've researched and believe I may have found some. Not cubensis though I dont think, maybe P Cyans?

Habitat:
I found these mushrooms on a large property that is used occasionally by horseriding clubs. there was bovine and equine dung scattered all across the property. Its hot at the moment and humidity was quite high. I found these mushrooms growing in groups of two to three out of very old decomposed looking dung. They were not far from a stream and developing in the partial shade provided by excess leaf litter and small plants growing amidst them.

The field is just west of Townsville city, found this morning 10/02/2020.

Gills:
The gills are a dark colour that I would describe as black.

Stem:

The stem was thin and white on the smaller ones. However, on the larger more developed ones the stem had started to turn a dark blue colour. They stand between 5 - 10cm tall.

Cap:

The caps had the diameter of a 10c piece or maybe closer toward a 20c piece for the bigger ones. the smaller ones had a small orangey discolouration in the middle and the larger ones had turned more like a dark goldish colour. One or two even seemed to have turned slightly black on the cap.

Spore print color:
Im still in the process of making the prints now and can update this once their ready. Going of the gills colour; a purplish black.

Bruising:
After bruising the stem the fluid around the bruise went a somewhat greeny colour that then turned into a light blue. after a little more time they had gone very, very dark blue around the bruise.

Other information:
Cant think of anything else right now. However, ask away and i'll do my best to provide all the information I can.

Thanks in advance to all and kind regards,

Mitch.

The bluing ones are Panaelous cyanescens. The reddish ones that aren't turning blue look like Panaeolus antillarum.

Queensland is banging out cyans and cubes.

The NZ and Aus folks always seem to kill it when the season starts. Nearly every ID request from you guys is a successful cube, Pan cyan, or subaeruginosa find.
