Pasturising small ammount of coir, in a jar with foil lid any tips?

Gday folks, is there a small scale version of the bucket tek for pasturising coir?
Don't want to use the bucket for just a small ammount, but I guess the bigger the load the longer it'll hold the temperature. Smaller ammount will go cooler faster thus not pasturising properly maybe :/.
I'm going to try doing it in a jar with foil as a lid, wrapped in a thick towel/bin bag and put near a radiator for an hour or two... Should it work? Any advice is appreciated

Coir doesn't need to be pasteurized...you can hydrate it with cold water.

I read some other posts on here saying it's better to do it cause it also cooks it and coir done with hot water will hold more water compared to coir soaked in cold water. Mycelium prefers the cooked coir?
Would you do it with the hot steam if you had the time, or you prefer just cold soaked coir?

1 coir brick (650gr), 16 cups verm, 16 cups h2o.
This gets me on the slightly dryer side of field capacity (which is what I prefer). Add ingredients to a bucket or some kind of vessel, pour 16 cups of boiling water on it, stir and let cool.
It will cook the coir and also expands it at the same time.

2 cubic foot bags of OMRI verm for 18 bucks at the depot. Coir is about the same around here.
I've seen several types of mold (green, blue, and black yay!) on dry coir bricks. Some people have good results not pasteurizing but I suspect they have not run into this before. If you check alibaba there are literally thousands of coco brick producers in hundreds of locations. All the big name brand coco producers buy from these sources. The better companies shred and test and reform their own blocks.
If you want to pasteurize your coco in a jar just make sure you don't use boiling water (depending on elevation) as it will heat the coco past pasteurization temp allowing for trich to set in bad. You want the temp around 165 F for a couple hoursish. use a meat/candy thermometer. Over 185 for even a few minutes with such a small amount of coir and you run the risk of green shit happening before you're ready to see it.
Good luck. Sterilize spawn, and pasteurize bulk/casing.

Omg will this ever die!? Coir has no microbes. Trich wont set in. Coir is not like manure or compost. Even if you properly pasteurize all your doing is heating the coir to 160. No true 'pasteurization' is taking place because nothing is being left alive because nothing is alive in the coir.
You can sterilize coir and it works all the same.

I've seen mold on coir blocks lots of times.... But then again I've seen thousands of them and from lots of different sources. Cellulose (a carbohydrate) is indeed a food for many types of organisms.

If coir needed pastuerizing then we couldnt bucket tek it because bucket tek is closer to partial sterilization. Partially sterilized poop(or improperly pasteurized) will mold hella quick.
Partially sterilized coir just sits. Cold watered coir just sits.

Good odds on gambling.
Here is a link to another TC's post with pictures showing these other organisms present in dry coir blocks.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26385700
It is by no means common.

Thank you all for the great info always something to learn on here I didn't weigh anything, put some coir in the jar and boiled the kettle and added the steaming hot water put foil and rubber bands over top wrapped in floor insulation/a towel next to radiator for 1h 30m.
Didnt check any temps but it did hold the temp very well(probably the radiator). I opened it up and loosened the foil till it had cooled down to room temp then squeezed to the dryer side of field capacity then into my little shoeboxes at roughly 1:1 ratio with some B+ cakes with about 1/4 inch coir-only casing on top.
Been 1 day so far can see a fair bit of mycelium popping through already(temps 18-25c)
