Owning a boat * 1
    #26476381 - 02/09/20 03:16 AM (3 years, 11 months ago)

I have been thinking about buying a small boat. I live a  5 minute bikeride from the Scheveningen harbor and am looking at signing up for a permanent spot there.

Idea is to buy a small sub 7 meter outboard powered unit. Was looking at some second hand stuff but all fairly expensive. Then I found this manufacturer in Istanbul turkey that is super cheap:

https://www.marinboat.com/

This one is 21.000 TL thats about €3150! It fits on a trailer and its about a 2700 km drive from where I live. Would need to get an engine for it, so thats another €3000

Seems like a good deal. Seen one at a dealer that sells it for €7500 without motor

Anybody own a boat here? Ideas? Things I should take into account?

Plan is to just cruise around the coastline when the weather is nice and the sea is calm. Do some fishing and whatnot, get away from people

as a former boat owner that got out of it quick... dont do it

boat stands for ... Break Out Another Thousand.

if your just wanting to fish and hangout, i recommend either renting or buying an inflatable and modifying it into a fishing boat

May as well just go throw money in the water

I'd get a kayak to fish and paddle in if I were you.

Boats seem like a huge money pit. Especially in salt water.

Me and my ex-GF co-own a 19ft Bayliner Capri. One of the best things Ive ever bought. So much fun. We only use it for freahwater thou, no Oceans. Maintenence, especially winterizing, is kinda shitty but its still allll gooood.

You don't take your ex out on your boat do you? Think of the implication.

I've owned a bunch differnt types of boats mostly for fishing. There's ways to do things to avoid super high costs. Owning a bout doesnt have to cost a huge fortune of course u can spend shutloads if ur an idiot or if your trying to show off or somet hi king. If your buying a brand new boat and motor ur gonna avoid lot of headaches that come with older boats. Maintenance is huge with avoiding compounding costs. That boat seems really small I would be a little intimidated taking that out of harbor or even in harbor if there's alot of big or fast boats. Seas around here get kinda crazy sometimes. Hell if you dont have enough horse power u could really end up in a dangerous situation with rip currents and fighting surf. One tip I would say is make sure the layout of the vessel is comfortable and functional to the activities you envision doing. I mean there's a million other things but you could write a whole book about it.

Yes I also hear boats are expensive but I know a few people who have small boats in fresh water and they aint rich

Def mostly planning to go out when the weather is nice. The sea can be treacherous for sure. My partner is from a fishing family and they have lost a few people over the years

We get glassy conditions quite frequently but yeah def need some power

This our harbor

Actually a lot of people are selling their boats to make ends meet, and so the price for boats has dropped over the years.

I always liked the idea of a house boat but my wife isn't too keen. No property taxes would be nice. We will probably do an RV instead.

TS, you should buy a boat and give it a shot man. At worst you've spent some money to find out you don't like it.  And the boat shouldn't depreciate too fast, so you should be able to unload it for near what you paid for it without too much effort.

My sister & I co-own a nice fishing boat.  It’s really cool, but we’ve had it out of water for like 5 years now.  Just been focused on other shit the past years.  At this point we’d have to do some repairs to get it ready for the lake again- the oil line is cracked, etc.  But I hope that we pull it together and get her floating again.

We also had a jon boat, but we turned it into a crazy sandbox for the kids, haha.

If you’ve got the time/money for it, boating is definitely awesome.  I like your idea of driving to Turkey to pick it up.  That’d be a cool adventure in itself.

Clackacraft is the preferred drift boat of more professional guides than any other brand in the industry. It's like the Ferrari of drift boats.

David Gilmour recorded some of Pink Floyd's more recent albums in his houseboat studio:

David Gilmour's Recording Studio

Ever since learning that I've wanted a houseboat  though obviously nearly nothing that fancy  Didn't realize his boat was built in 1910, or that the deck was made to fit a 19 piece orchestra

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

There is a saying among boat owners.  BOAT stands for break out another thousand.  If you are already shopping on the bargain end of the spectrum, expect this to happen sooner and frequently rather than later and infrequently.  I grew up around boats and boaters my whole life.

I was looking at importing brand new but cheap from Turkey.

Start small and see how I like it. I know a couple peeps with boats but all of them are further inland on fresh water.

I really prefer to get a spot on the harbor 5 minutes away. Just the spot for a 7m boat is 950 a year, and I would have to appear before a commitee before getting accepted into the local club

But the sea here can be sweet for sure. You can see it in my avatar. Thats the south side of the harbor entrance

But are u down for iBoats? :awesome:

Its working on my phone: https://forums.iboats.com/

I tried on my PC last night, said the certificate was outdated or something

Do u get storms up there? Cause if u do, mooring at the harbor could trash yer boat.
