New Idea

What do you guys thin of making a mix of finely ground rye, straw and verm (put it in bags with a filter patch). Then I would sterilize them in the PC and inoculate with my Liquid Culture. This would erase one step in the entire process. There would be no spawning after all, just direct fruiting from the bag.
What do you guys think?

?? Why wouldn’t you just case a jar of grain? And top fruit it? Or top fruit a bag by the same method?
Doesn’t make any sense to me, and also idk how it takes out an entire step. I would think I’d be more difficult to hydrate powdered grain, unless it was prehydrated. But even then Blending it would destroy the only thing holding the liquid in. Past that obstacle, it would ADD an extra step of pulverizing your mixture of grain and straw.
Could be a solid working idea but I don’t think it’s practical whatsoever. Probably proves more difficult than a traditional method.

powdered grain is the same as just rye flour, which is easy to acquire. so it hydrates just like a pf tek cake.
i was thinking it takes the step of casing away. because this way I just prepare the bags with the entire substrate already in it (flour, nutrients, coco coir / straw, and some verm) - the only thing to do is to sterilize and then inoculate with LC. that's it. I don't need to pasteurize the substrate, i don't need to case anything. just fruiting. that's it.
what am i missing?

Check out this tek. If I understood your post, it's essentially what you're thinking of doing but with bottles.

That grain doesn’t fruit well on its own. Even when not using a casing layer people still use a bull substrate to signal the mushrooms it’s time to pin. And with dung based substrates it adds nutrition. By the time the mixture is colonized it will have used a good amount of nutrients and water. That’s also why we hydrate coir to add more water for the pinning process, which uses a lot of water all at once.

Try it out. I think you would need to PC the bag for 3 hrs at 15 PSI...
