Why did my friend get violently sick?
    #26476204 - 02/08/20 10:01 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

Hi, everyone. My friend wanted to try shrooms for the first time and she basically had no experience. About a hour or so passed after taking about 1.5g and she didn't feel anything except the intense urge to puke. For the rest of the night she was extremely nauseous. I have thrown up before on the come-up and pretty much always have nausea but dull, not what she described. Do some people get this on their first time she also ate before taking them, which I never do. She still wants to try it again but I don't want to have her waste anymore. . .

Also, is it normal to lose your appetite after shroom trips? I'm still new to it, but the week or so after I always don't feel the need to eat much. ( Which is a huge positive as I do have an eating disorder and used to binge a lot )

Nausea is quite common and vomiting is not unheard of. Vomiting is a bit unusual on just 1.5 grams. Possibly the mushrooms were contaminated with bacteria, or she was just really sensitive. But nausea on mushrooms in general is really quite common. This is especially true if the mushrooms are eaten dry because the body has a hard time breaking down the mushroom material. You might try making it into a tea, but still you should still expect her to be nauseous, especially if the mushrooms are contaminated with something or rotten. But even if that's not the case, nausea is still common, and she might just be sensitive.

Were these wild picked or home grown?

Violently sick? Was she assaulting you with vomit or something?

It's common.

Try tea and more mushrooms. 1.5g of cubensis isn't going to do much and can be underwhelming to a point of turning people off of mushrooms all together. People take these things expecting to see wild colors when they don't realize it takes more mushrooms than they're willing to put down.

It sounds like exaggeration. She's a lightweight. Constantly looking after those who can't look after themselves can become a burden. Girls are really good at forcing people to do things through manipulation.
They force responses out. But, they also use other guys to provoke responses out of other guys. They are designed to cause more testosterone to release out the guy.
Everyone is susceptible to nausea. You can't always curl up into a ball and rest until it goes away, squirming when necessary. Prevention goes a long way, so eat vegan based and fill up on light food so you aren't clogging your arteries with junk and oily processed foods. Doing hallucinogens on an empty stomach is important because you never know how food will affect it. Most people trip with people or a sitter, so there's more community. But doing it alone could cause you to drive a car or do something else reckless.

Idk man some people just get sick easier on shrooms . Cubensis has a lot of chitan which is indigestable and some people don't handle it well. Some people get nauseous just from eating wild non psychoactive mushrooms that have alot of chitan in them. And on top of possible anxiety from the first trip? Also some people I know just get sort of a drunk/dizzy feeling from the effects themselves. I've never experienced this but I know a couple people who describe it like that. Everyone's body/brain chemistry is different.

OP I'd recommend having her try a tea. As others have suggested. Maybe just tell her to sip it really slow over like 30-45 minutes. I've heard people say different things about food. Some say if they don't eat before they get sick. Some say if they don't take it on an empty stomach they get sick. So I'm not really sure on that one. In any case a tea should help.

I used to get nausea, but these two changes helped me:

As far as food goes: fasting starting from the night before, eating very lightly (fruits, nuts, etc) the day of. Also, plain yogurt a bit before ingesting can help settle the tummy.

Also, grinding in lemon TEK (after 15 min, add OJ, chug) reduces the uncomfortable part of breaking down the tough plant material.

At the end f the day, some people are not suited to mushrooms!

But try her first with lemon tea; break up thendried shrooms and pour over lemon juice then pour over boiling water and simmer for 20 minutes. Then strain out all the mushroom material and chug it down, then rinse out with orange juice.

If she is still sick, don’t give her mushrooms again! For most people, this method removes the nausea. I’ve never been sick, and very rarely get a slight stomach discomfort (usually when the mushrooms are powder dry and some get through the strainer).

Good luck,
DJ Ed

Eating heavy food before eating mushrooms can cause nausea. To minimize nausea I'd make some ginger tea with the mushrooms (boil mushrooms and ginger in water then strain) and only add lemon if you want it to hit harder and faster.

Sounds like the mushrooms are helping you break habits/compulsions, helping "reset" yourself, helping to "re-wire" things a bit so you don't have a desire/compulsion to binge eat.

I wouldn't say it's normal at all for mushrooms to make one lose an appetite for the following week after a trip....

...but I would say it is totally normal for mushrooms to break habits/compulsions and make people change and lose their "old ways" of doing things.

So if you have an eating disorder of sorts and tend to binge eat, that is totally something that mushrooms can help one sort out and "fix". It's not so much that mushrooms specifically make people lose their appetite after they trip, it's that mushrooms tend to help sort out & fix & get rid of unnecessary habits/compulsions that people have...what ever they may be.

For some people that might be smoking cigarettes...for some people that might be binge eating...for some people that might be their sleep pattern....etc etc etc....

Mushrooms are great at that. Even if the trip wasn't centered around that habit/compulsion and no thoughts about that habit/compulsion arose during the trip, more often than not mushrooms tend to break habits/compulsions for people after a trip.

In regards to your friend...mushrooms can be heavy on the stomach for some people, not uncommon for some folks to be extra sensitive and become nauseated/pukey easily. Brewing the mushrooms into a tea can help alleviate this aspect somewhat.
