Even if you fruit in the jar you are going to want to wash away the uncolonized part of the cake.

So "birth" it, wash it away, then back in the jar? I guess I need a tek. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

Sounds to me like it's probably the jar size and less likely it's a contamination. Smell test is the old thing I can think of.

Well this is my first rodeo. I don't know that I trust my nose.

Open the lid and sniff. You will know if it smells off. It's like a primal human trait to snuff something and know if it is bad.

Also you can birth it by opening the lid and putting some coir on top and watering. Stick it in a larger Tupperware with the Tupperware lid loose for a couple of days until it starts to colonize the top of the coir. It will fruit just like that.

Bassically. Yes.
I dont think you will find a tek for uncolonized ir unfinished stalled out cakes.
As soon as you open it you will be exposing uncolonized cake to contamed air and it will soon go green.
If you wash or cut away the uncolonized portion you are left with a fully colonized(hopefully with mushroom mycelium) cake. Which can then safely be fruited. In the jar or out. Wont matter at that point.

Okay so why the earlier recommendations to fruit in jar? To contain contams if there were any?

I didnt recommend fruiting in the jar. You said you wanted to fruit in the jar and I suggested if you do that you still rinse away uncolonized substrate.

My bad. I didn't mean you. I meant earlier suggestions from others...
