For the second flush I should let it rest for a bit no? Ive just realised I may have fucked up. I should have left them a few day before dunking, but I did. I am gonna leaves it and see, without mist for a couple of days. I’ve just been misting, But I should leave it for a bit right? Rest For a couple of days, then dunk?

Forgot to ask about the size of the substrate, it’s shrunk like a penis in the cold. Is that an issue for the substrate or just me ego.
Also I have notice side pins 🙄

Shrinking of the substrate in a box/tub is part of the fruiting process. The cake/substrate becomes denser as mycelium pulls everything together (initially upon spawning - it is relatively light density - mostly due to coir) and also a lot of molecules "turn" into shrooms and are chopped off - can't escape physics ...conservation of mass.
Side pins definitely become more of problem with shrinking - correct use of bin liner before spawning can mostly prevent that for later flushes (for the future projects only - please don't go mental and start wrapping substrate in bin bags now!).

That make perfect sense, thanks for explaining that.

Mum is that you?!?
Or have you been reading my other posts.
🤣 🤣
So a bin liner is a good option, that kind of adjusts to the sides as the substrate shrinks or can be made tighter with tape. Like what I had to do with my jeans after losing so much weight.
I’ve seen someone slice up the substrate and turn them on their sides on Shroomery, with the intention of giving the slices more room to grow

Yes, I've seen your update where you impulsively done things in this thread
Cutting it up is almost always a terrible idea - you weaken myceliums immune system by intentionally wounding it.
Why would you want to increase surface area of a cake - do you want more side pins .. because that is how you get side pins? Bigger surface area also increases loss of moisture via evaporation. Good substrate only grows shrooms on 1 surface.
Make sure you understand WHY people with more experience do things the way they do here instead of just copying
And always look at who posts the information - this forum is full of noobs who think they know stuff and give absolutely terrible advice.

Yeah I’m realising the noob thing as a noob, which is problematic using the search engines. I have tried to limit my advanced searches to TC (topcats/trickster culivators), but that doesn’t always lead to what I want as in depends on what I’m searching. I can’t remember if it also searches for only TCs thread and replies.
The advanced search is great but again there is a lot of misleading info that gets bundled in.
I wonder if there is a way to filter threads that are posted and replied to by TCs contain

Yes, there is - if you click on 'Search our forums' link at the top right corner it will lead you to advanced search screen. There are two tick boxes below text fields for "trusted cultivators" and "trusted identifiers" (more relevant for wild shroom ID, not so much growing).
Additionally it can be beneficial to limit the age of post/threads. Even for TCs some old posts don't contain the best information for a simple reason as 10-15 years ago TEKs were different (less efficient or more difficult to do for most part). It was good at the time but there could be better new details that supersede older ones.

Second flush still not bad

Gonna try a third and see what happens
After that I will try the substrate and make a tincture from it me thinks.

I’m curious how you rehydrated for the second flush.. did you dunk the sub or mist or just let it do it’s thing and also if there was any kind of noticeable potency variation between flushes? Nice job!

I dunked it for two hours submerged with a weighted box on top. Not tried them yet, storing them in a ziplock bag containing Desiccant Bags within a UV jar in the fridge.

Will do, I’ll put them in a specific bag, thing is though the first lot I dried on a lower heat so they took longer. I followed some old info
