Google Search Filter Bias 2

So not sure if this is common knowledge or not but this is something I’ve been noticing recently.
When I’d search certain information about drugs on google (or really any kind of counter culture/fringe topic) , the results come up as addiction treatment, rehabilitation resources etc. And not actually the information that should be coming up in relation to my keywords used.
For example , I typed in , “Nod off Oxycodone”
These are the google results

And these are the duck duck go results

So it’s just something to keep in mind when doing certain research and to question the search engine you use cause it could be biased into directing your results in a certain direction with its own agenda of what it believes you should be seeing instead.

I use duck duck go as my default engine unless I want shopping results. That’s the only area it drops the ball.

Word has it that the duck is inferior for shopping except for RC shopping
Google hides RC vendors, the duck just offers search results based on your query.

It also doesn’t save your information like google does. My personal file on google is over 60gig and I was shocked when I downloaded it. They sell all that information to 3rd parties to tailor ads and god knows what nefarious shit

I have to say, its nice to see Google actually try to prevent deaths/overdoses/addictions. A Noble cause. The opioid death problem is a big issue and a lot of people are dying accidently or by suicide. That being said, too bad there inwt a "Drug Safe Search Off" toggle switch like there is for the naughty video/picture stuff. One can only hope for such a service.....
Ive noticed Bing often doesnt show some RC websites, so other search engines do it as well.
Duck Duck Go for sure is the place to be.

Looks like we were all already using DDG anyways

I understand where you’re coming from but i have to disagree.
I mean. Google can do whatever they want and people can choose to use a different search engine but I don’t think it’s their place to decide what information i should be reading. It’s a slippery slope.
Google doesn’t want you to find out certain information on the government or aliens because they feel like they know what’s best for you. Your search results come up as pro government or websites that only have information saying aliens and ufos are fake and it’s all a hoax. Obviously poor examples but you get my point lol.
We were talking about the Chinese government censoring certain information about the Coronavirus. I don’t see how this could eventually end up any different.
I like my information being free.

Thats a fair point. I mean, im sure the results are in there, just probably not the the first page.
Its like the end justifies the mean. A shift in priorities that happens to affect everyone. Like the plastic bag and plastic straw bans. Perhaps its for a greater good. But i would say, i wish that feature could be turned off.
Near Dylan found a bias in Bings search engine. He found that when u search "female actors", the Images Bing brings up are of women from India.

I just searched "Nod off Oxycodone" on Bingx very drug-friendly results. Thats one thats nice about the smaller search engines, less bias overall.
I almost always uae Bing and it works well for me.

I use DDG, but one thing to keep in mind is the guy who started it, his last job was collecting and selling information, /g/ speculates that DDG could be doing this on the down low

I read about them doing this some years ago, it's an attempt to encourage drug treatment and stuff like that.
Still, I wonder if this is why the shroomery has been getting less people the last few years...

I agree with this and bigworm's comment. They're a private business, they can do whatever they want, and if people don't like it, then people are free to go elsewhere. It's the same thing I think about facebook/twitter/etc. They're private businesses and can do whatever they want as a private business. No one is forcing anyone to use their services, and there are tons of competitors to all these things.
Honestly, I sincerely doubt that duckduckgo is actually as privacy loving and all that as they claim to be. I bet they're pulling the same shit as google behind the scenes, but they're not as big so no one notices. Any company in that kind of position is probably going to end up playing the same games in the end IMO.

The only problem with this kind of stuff is no one ever mentions the alternative.
Okay, you don't want to allow any sponsored ads - how do you plan to make money? Obviously there are billions of search results - how do you plan to prioritize them?
Google is not a big shadow conspiracy company. They prioritize their search results just like their sponsored ads - to make the most money. Providing an algorithm that is 'predictive' likely would provide the best search results, though it would definitely be off in many instances.
