So I got a free laptop from someone who got a new one. Im not really sure how to find out if its decent or not, besides the brand and simple identifiers.
Im curious what games will run fine on a slower laptop. Any tips?

What are the laptop specs? Can you post them?
Typically, any classic/retro game will run perfect on a slower computers. Simple graphical games are best. Theres a bunch of free emulators out there.
If you want the full experience, buy a USB controller for your laptop. Theres even wireless ones.

The laptop is definitely up to date on software and CPU. But probably has a basic video card not meant for gaming. Not sure if u can upgrade a stock laptop with a new laptop video card.....hmmmm.
Have u tried to play any games yet?
Ever heard of Miniclip?
https://www.miniclip.com/
^All these games should run smooth, assuming u have fast internet.

That’s nice to hear, I mean it’s only a thinkpad. It was a gift from a knowledgeable IT guy. You know stuff about computers? I haven’t gamed in awhile, and now I’m dying to kick some ass. Probably not worth trying to upgrade it if it’s even possible. ) :
One of my friends said you can build a decent gaming computer for like 800$. What do you think? A lot of money, but damn worth it.

Yeah its worth it for a $800 gaming computer. I just bought some things for my PC, a used motherboard/CPU combo, new video card and monitor (old monitor was too old for new video card). Might have to upgrade my motherboard/CPU to a newer one (currently have a Core 2 Quad on an ASUS board). We'll see.
Yeah, I know quite a bit about computers. I used to build them as a kid. Still do
Do you like classic/retro games or do you like more modern games?

That’s cool man, good for you. That must be exciting to build your own stuff! I like both kinds of games, I grew up playing age of empires/wow/tons of stuff plus the random flash games on miniclip/new grounds and such. I’m going to do some research and see what I can get together. Where did you get most of the parts for your PC?
I like a lot of games to be honest.

I buy my parts on eBay. Huge selection of used parts.
With a laptop with no dedicated graphics card, you are very limited in gaming

You could definitely play some games off steam. Quite a few, actually. Just nothing current or cutting-edge obviously lol. You'd have to try some out, but you should be able to play an older edition of Age of Empires. Even something like Runescape would run alright.

Second to steam! There's a lot of free stuff. Everything has the requirements on the page. If you wanna make it even easier you can google 'can i run it' and there will be a site that you can use to just look up the game, it checks your comp out, and tells you if you can play it. You can also check out google Stadia if you have a good internet connection. I miss my google fiber
What kind of games do ya dig? I spent a lot of time on Expeditions: Viking lately, it should be easy to run.

Delve into the ancient art of emulation. Any laptop that can run Win 10 can run anything from the N64/PSX generation and older.

I bought a decent i5 laptop with a 940mx graphics card for like 640 bucks 2 years ago or so. Been a really solid computer I love it. only thing that's making me lean toward getting a new one is the 2 hinges that hold the screen got broken by my cats when they were kittens and ran into the screen playing grab ass. Now I have to prop it up to use it and it's not connected to the bottom at all beside a wire
Was definitely worth the investment if you give a price range i'm sure we could definitely find you something that would be the best bang for your buck. It's definitely worth paying a little money but mine runs most games on atleast medium if there newer. Stuff like league of legends can run on high+
mostly just gotta make sure you have a dedicated graphics card.

Very nice! Having a dedicated graphics card is essential for PC/laptop gaming.
I heard those kinds of fixes are pretty easy. Every tried to fix the hinges at all?

Yea but there completely busted. I have to take the back off and for some reason when I tried to take it off I got all the screws off and all of it will come off but like one corner. The left side toward the top like will not budge. There's no screw or anything it's bizarre and I didn't really want to break it so I just sorta said whatever.
I plan on getting a new one soon or most likely building a ryzen desktop. Will definitely hang onto this one as a back up and maybe eventually get the hinges replaced. It's still solid as fuck it's a good ass computer.
