Can I use my backyard household compost as substrate?
    #26472944 - 02/06/20 09:45 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

So I am trying to figure out the most convenient substrate tek for me, and I am finding through my search that hpoo substrates are the favorite. How about the compost I make in the backyard?? Could this possibly be a high nutrient natural sub for hpoo? I mean what is more convenient than using my own trash for mushies?
This would be your typical mix of food scraps mixed with common browns such as leaves, twigs, cardboard, newspaper, etc.
Has anyone experimented with this? Is there a reason I am not finding anything conclusive?

Coco coir @80% and verm @20% are most convenient sub materials  if you can find them. If your household compost was grain/ grass or manure based I’d say go for it. But food waste and leaves arent gonna be ideal nutrition for coprophilic mushrooms.

Once you make a pile with spent/contammed  coco subs you can totally let it cook and turn it a couple times then pasteurize it and use it again, but i would jist get more coco andnuse the compost in the garden.
