Good call, but imagine the circumstance of your home town crematoria having their ovens set on high burn burning corpses in plastic body bags round the clock 24/7 staffed to maximum capacity. Its apocalyptic.

Where does that vent too?  Wouldn’t that make the whole area reek of burning flesh?

You ever been by a restaurant and it smells like food?  Ever visit a neighborhood near a paper mill?  China’s air is so fucked though that all the other smoke and garbage probably just covers up the human flesh burning.

Unlike Auschwitz krematoria, modern peacetime crematoria have an afterburner/scrubber, that is the smoke gases are passed through blue flame again to positively incinerate all organics to CO2, H2O and N2 and get out the SO2 etc so that, again unlike concentration camp ovens, no real smoke or odor is produced.

Concentration camp krematoria ran on a bare minimum of fuel that got the job done in combination with the factual caloric heat of the burning protein and body fat, those chimneys smoked, stank and rained ashes down on the camps and the surroundings. It was barely a step over open pit burning, modern crematoria use an excess of fuel to do the job right and discreetly.

If the situation in Wuhan escalates much more, you just know they'll have to resort to burning two at a time, first mothers with children and couples, then, matched weights to meet the oven's capacity.

An extremely ghoulish prospect, sorry to go there.

News source looks shady.  At the same time never trust the Chinese and media. Taiwan?  Have no fucking clue.  Hoping it doesn't come to the States big time but they are taking strong measures to make sure it doesn't.

Just glad I am not flying again until April. What will be will be.

If I pretend it has some legitimacy and kind of weigh the options, I'd say there is a lot more to gain to hide the numbers than to not. Panic, economics, political perceptions. China's internet is also heavily monitored and segregated. Those pictures look a lot worse than the numbers suggest also. Those hospitals going up. In the sense of sanity and science this sounds stupid because the smartest thing to do is to just be honest so everyone can deal accordingly. But if China is trying to protect its status or there's legitimate claims to be made about possible bioengineering I have a hard time imagining they wouldn't lie. A country, specifically a superpower like China only benefits from keeping its citizens calm and outside perceptions to that of independence and fortitude. All that being said I lean way closer to the lower numbers being real, but something seems off about the whole thing.

The Russians downplayed Chernobyl too.

If I read a crematorium employee guesstimating his city needs 100 body bags a day and all the crematoria are on 24/7 shifts, I'm thinking MUCH higher figures.

You saw the one from the Taiwanese news station that showed about 24.000 people dead and then changed it back to 400 a little later?

Didnt see but it wouldnt surprise me. The majority of Chinese provinces affected have 500+ infected and 1-2 dead. Completely out of proportion to Hubei.

China obviously lies. We only need to look at their anual stats for flu deaths to see that (<100 per year). That said, other people do as well, so I’m hesitant to really trust anyone at this point.

Just something to keep in mind.

They really have no incentive to lie at this point. Nobody is going to blame them anymore than they are getting already . They tried to cover this up in the beginning but now there is no reason. They’re already cut off from the rest of the world. They’ve cut themselves off.

Tonight’s numbers

31,000 cases
600 deaths

There’s a 2-3 week lag period before the infections are taking off.

Japan now has 30+ cases

The doctor/whistleblower who first alerted the world to the coronavirus died a few hours ago

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1131556
Quote:

A prominent Chinese doctor, who had been punished by police for blowing the whistle on the coronavirus outbreak, has died, the Wuhan Central Hospital reported.

The hospital confirmed Dr. Li Wenliang's death in a post on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter: "Ophthalmologist Li Wenliang of our hospital, who was unfortunately infected during the fight against the pneumonia epidemic of the new coronavirus infection, failed after all efforts, and died at 2:58 on February 7, 2020. We deeply regret and mourn this."
