What if all people ate nothing but meat?
    #26471948 - 02/06/20 12:20 PM (4 years, 10 days ago)

What do you think would happen to the world if all people ate nothing but meat?

Hmmm, interesting 1st post. Not sure about the physiology behind it, but I could probably  eat steak at least 3 nights a week. I eat meat almost every night in some form/type: steak, hamburger, fish, or chicken along with veggies and other things etc...sometimes I'll only have cheese enchiladas, rice and beans though. Sometimes mac and cheese only.

Only hope can give rise to the emotion we call despair. But it is nearly impossible for a man to try to live without hope, so I guess that leaves Man no choice but to walk around with despair as his companion.

carnivore humans pollute like 10x more than people who eat a regular diet.

Meat is insanely polluting.

When mass produced, when done proberly in biodynamic setting not so bad.
If you want to eat meat but not part of the machine choose organic/biodynamic locally grow (not produced) meat.

Really though?  What if you included air miles in your calculations? Someone who exclusively eats local meat from a butcher is contributing way less to CO2 than someone who eats exotic fruit flown in from the tropics, avocados and almonds from california, corn, soy and palm oil grown on ex-rainforest land. Its all vegan! Most people on a regular diet eat stuff like bananas which only grow in tropical regions, and monoculture grains like wheat which are bad for biodiversity and suck all the nutrients out of the soil.

If everyone ate nothing but meat there would be no need for all the plastic packaging we use for food products, because we could all eat local. Also lots of people would be healthier- no sugar, no processed carbs, no allergens. Also the world's soil would be in great shape, we could bring back hedgerows in farmland to increase biodiversity. One cow's worth of beef has more energy than you might expect.

I agree with Cowboy - I would prefer if all our meat came from a properly run sustainable farm

At the end of the day, you could eat all local meat or you could eat all local veggies and both are way better for the environment than what we currently got.

If you eat all meat you are going to be shitting your pants for three weeks and if you eat all veggies you are going to have bloating and gas for about three weeks as well.

I stick with the "all veggies" although I'm not good at picking them all up locally yet.  I'm not killing animals, so you could say I am killing my "more distant relatives" in plants.

Fungi are dope.

You have to feed an animal more calories than you are going to get out of it by eating it...of course it could be easier in some ways and it could be more efficient in converting grasslands into calories in the short term but in the long term it is going to rely on mostly one certain kind of food for itself...

...which means you aren't maximizing diversity if you stick with only meat...

Plus it's probably not possible to feed everyone all meat all the time that way.

...polyculture, permaculture, food forests, vertical gardening, veganic farming, no-till, no-work, aquaculture, and all other sorts of plant and fungi farming are all very young fields and have an unlimited discovery process ahead of them...

...plants and fungi give more medicine, more products, and a higher variation of foods and also represent the chance to create more diverse ecosystems, natural ecosystems, and more production ecosystems from their production.

That's an opportunity that comes with a lot of work but with development it is there...

...mammals are like us, they move, they eat breath oxygen (fungi does as well though) and they tend to naturally have a lower population of individuals in their species than many or most plants...

...in order for mammals to live in a more natural environment and yet still harvest some for food you need to allow their to be a natural environment in the first place...and then naturally mammals and birds will only be in certain population numbers and they will be harder to harvest since you have to "hunt them down" to a certain degree...

...as long as you control the environment (which you have to if you mass produce meat OR plants) then you need to advance your techniques for allowing the environment itself to thrive, survive, and produce....

.......

Meat production is the same thing as plant production but you are converting the plant matter into meat...

.....if you let the plants grown themselves they will produce you both meat and plant food...

...but not enough of either for the world's population today...

....you have to advance somehow and I think you do that through the creation of brand new ecosystems...an ecosystem is never "complete" but it can become stable enough to expand and "live" on its own.

Well said  I really hope permaculture kicks off in a big way in the coming years. I really think its the best holistic healing programme for communities, individual health, and planet health we've got.

We all love fungi anyway :mushroom:  :mushroom:  :mushroom:  :mushroom: there's really no argument against them. I'm really glad to be part of this community you know. I've only just joined and started contributing, but it's really cool how we've all got a common interest in mushrooms, and it makes it a really nice place to hang.

Genesis 9:3

:puppet:

Jk op..

You should be aware that earlier in Genesis, we were instructed by God to live off plants. Save the fruit that was produced by the tree of knowledge. So technically we were supposed to be vegans.

Furthermore, like Asante said, meat production is really bad for the environment. And in my opinion, not good for you as your only source of nutrition.
