I’d highly recommend installing your OS on and running on the new SSD and using the old 2tb HD for storage, but I’m sure you already are doing that.
I couldn’t believe how much faster my older computer got when I switched to ssd. It’s a 2011 base model MacBook Pro and it is running a very recent version of OS X and works like a brand new computer, it’s fast. It was running like shit before the ssd. I also put 16g of ram in which helps a lot. On a side note, that’s why I keep buying Apple computers. Nothing else holds up that long, in my experience - 9 years old and works better than new.
I actually was not planning on that but might consider it now that you've pointed it out
My PC is only a couple years old and still running pretty smooth overall, but it might be worth it. Was mainly looking forward to the SSD for running games and other software, also maybe video editing.

I wish I could justify buying the nvme drives but they have thermal issues, gotta buy a secondary heat sink. Plus with my ambient temps, thats a big nono. I'd rather get a 1tb samsung evo ssd.

When I started in Y2K I had a dazzling 30 GB HDD.
Now they have pencil sharpener sized 256GB memory sticks.

My first PC had a 32mb hdd, 256kb of memory. Windows 2.1, MS paint was awesome, solitaire too, but everything else ran from Dos Prompt. The gui was basically useless.
When I got a PC that had 1gb of ram I figured I’d never need another pc ever again. These days, my main work station has 32gb or ram. All of my laptops have 16gb of ram. My old MacBook Pro that I gave to my wife has 16gb ram, 500gb ssd, and 1tb hdd that's in the CD bay. Meanwhile I have 24tb of network storage, and it's nearly full, so more disks are in my future. It's crazy how cheap storage is, but it's also crazy how large files have gotten. That in mind, most networks can't handle anything faster than like 300mb/s, even enterprise grade hardware, so if you need storage SSD's are a poor choice. My NAS for example can r/w simultaneously at 100mb/s, but it's hardly ever an issue.

Now thats some next-level booting
That's the M2 type I mentioned earlier where Crucial lead the pack atm.

I live in a hot spot as well, that was my choice for solution at home. At work (where I'm spending other people's money) I put Intel disks in my machine.

I'm a bit too young to have ever played with a commodore. I sometimes wish I had be able to get into PC's at the ground level, some 45 years ago now. My career path would probably be a good bit different.

Oh yeah definitely make the SSD the system drive. The performance gain is huge. Your computer will start up in like 1/10th the time and applications and everything will run much faster and smoother.
