I threw down some stem butts last year but didn’t return this year. It’s definitely not a place you would want to spend any time picking. The path is right next to the compound and there are cameras every 50 feet. High security to the max.

This is not the CIA, btw. The park next to the cia is actually a good spot for hunting mushrooms and apparently for anonymous gay sexual encounters, but I’m only personally experienced with the mushroom hunting.

I don’t think water moccasins live in the northern half of the ovoid range

I’ve nearly stepped on a copperhead a few times hunting for ovoids. They wont generally bite unless you actually step on it, but it pretty terrifying to look down and see one curled up a foot from where you just walked.
One time my friends dog was literally sniffing one along the path. It just sat there until I poked it to go back into the woods since it was right along a busy path

This is a really nice mulched path with bamboo that encircles a super high security three letter agency in Virginia. So much potential but I’ve never actually found ovoids growing inside one of these stands

I know I technically don’t belong here, but seeing as these bad boys come from your neck of the woods I figured y’all might enjoy seeing them. Thank the Lord for the comrades who spread these beautiful sacred mushrooms to the PNW. First season looking for them and I could not be more grateful and stoked:-)

I got a couple of timber Rattlers stretched and tanned, only cause I was root hunting and couldn't move. Other than those and copperheads I don't sweat it. Ive also been chased by blue racers which was fucking crazy,to be so scared of a non venomous snake but yeah I ran

SEPA still poppin! Hasn't rained in almost a week, and yet.....

Every time I visit this spot, I keep thinking "This has gotta be it for the season", but no! They just keep on coming.
We got a week of cool weather and rain ahead with Cristobal approaching, so I imagine we're still not quite done yet!
I've been picking several times a week since the first week of April, and consistently finding them almost every time I go out. This is my first season hunting ovoids, and I'm worried the bar has been set at epic for the future! It's not normally this good, right?

This season is quite abnormal, it was the perfect storm in a way. The mild winter and early spring coupled with a lack of flooding created ideal conditions for madsive fruiting in the natural habitats. Mulch beds didnt do as well as I had hoped but im still pulling pounds in the floodplains and its 90⁰+ so i cant complain

I took spores and broken dried gills and tossed it in Mario water for a month. I knocked up rye grain with the liquid culture. Once it's done, I'm thinking a tub with 3 inches of sand, then a layer of this crumbled up, finished with a 3 inch layer of wood chips. I'll probably put a small log or two in for safe measure. You guys think this can work? Given that it's actually ovoid mycelium and not some other crap?

I know it involved using a freezer for a few days to freeze the mycellium and simulate winter.

Fruiting them out of season is simple, just imitate nature, keep the same soil temps, humidity, etc... The reason noone bothers is the amount of time and energy you need. Its compareable to growing corn in a greenhouse in the winter.
Just take some stembutts put them in mulch and next year bam you got pounds of psychedelic mushrooms with no effort, just patience.

Man those are fuckin massive!! Awesome finds. I’d love to find some monsters such as those in their natural habitat on the East coast.
